Power struggle between businesses and.....

...... customers has always been an under-discussed issue. Most of the businesses [95%] feel scared of losing their power to the customers; they want to control the customer's wallet and mind space without ever being slightly vulnerable in front of them.

But great businesses are made when a bunch of people decide to give away the power to the customer. The best disruptions happen when businesses remove barriers, give control to customers, and democratize access to something that was once restricted to big companies or professionals:

  • Airbnb flipped the hospitality industry on its head by allowing ordinary people to rent out their homes or spare rooms. Instead of hotels dictating prices and availability, individual hosts and travelers had control over their stays.
  • YouTube gave power to individuals to create and distribute content to a global audience. Before YouTube, traditional media companies controlled what people could watch.
  • Shopify made it possible for anyone to start an e-commerce business without needing technical skills or a huge budget.
  • Canva made it easy for anyone to create professional-looking designs. Graphic design used to require expensive software and professional skills.
  • Netflix, in just one subscription, gave access to all the content in the world instead of charging for every movie.
  • Subway allows customers to choose what they want to have in their sandwich instead of telling them what they should.

The examples are countless. In short, giving away power to the customers positions you best to control the customer experiance.
