The Power of a Strong Network

The Power of a Strong Network

Few people in business don’t understand the power that comes from being connected to a strong network. There’s a clear understanding that our network dictates many aspects of our life – if not most. Our worldview, habits, characteristics, daily decisions, where we’re going this weekend and maybe who we’re going to marry!

The world of business is not any different. In fact, it’s exactly the same. Small and large businesses alike have a clear understanding that their network constitutes their client base, fans, followers, and advocates. No business has ever survived without the staunch loyalty of its fans. We see it with the long overnight lines outside of Apple stores, the quintessential professional armed with their white Starbucks paper cup, the refreshing happiness from an icy cold (Diet) Coke and all the brands that we’ve grown to love.

Businesses today don’t just sell products or services, they sell lifestyle and emotional responses. Many of them call for an entire paradigm shift among their network. With a clear vision, time, and a rigorous marketing mix, we have lived to see some incredible campaigns that have garnered brand loyalty among their fans the world over. That is precisely the power a strong network.

Grow Your Network, Grow Your Business

We researched some tips on how to take the art of networking to the next level.

  1. Don’t get bogged down in your own industry groups. Although industry events can be helpful in keeping you up to speed with all the developments in your field, they can also be a waste of your time since you'd be surrounded by your competitors. You want to get out from behind your desk, clear your head, and go for uncharted business territory. Become your own passionate, lovable brand ambassador. Because, let's face it, nobody understands your business like you do and nobody will do a better job propagating your message like you would. And remember to have some fun in the process!
  2. Building relationships takes time. Follow up is imperative, but easier said than done. When you meet a person who you think will strengthen your business, remember to always stay in touch. Because one of those times, your services or product will be requested.
  3. Get involved in a big way. If an organization is worth your time, you should be right in the middle of the action. Seek to serve on their boards and committees. Otherwise, drop out. When you are all-in, you will build relationships that matter. People will see how you work when you are at your best. These types of relationships build trust and friendships that almost always lead to business opportunities.

So there you have it; our recipe for major networking success. Whether you're a small business, start up, or major corporation, the rules of engagement are the same. Offer something of value, spread the word, create a loyal following and - bam - you've created a strong network that will move your brand forward.
