The Power of Small, Calculated Steps
Big goals are daunting. Whether you’re launching a business, writing a book, or spearheading a new project, the sheer scope can be paralyzing. But here’s what I’ve learned: Breaking down your big plan into small, calculated steps is the ultimate power move.
I’ve learned this firsthand as I work toward my big 2025 goal: publishing my book! You might think, “Just sit down and write,” but there’s far more to it—audience research, writing, editing, marketing, and publishing, all while juggling a dozen smaller tasks. Without a step-by-step plan, I’d be overwhelmed and miss every deadline.
The mindset shift that changed everything for me is: tackle goals the way you’d build a skyscraper. You don’t just shout, “Build it!” Instead, you break it into phases: engineering, mobilization, construction, and inspections. Down to the smallest detail, like scheduling the electrician for Tuesday at 2 PM.
That’s how I approach my book: chapters become sections, sections have stories, and stories hold teaching points. I don’t write a chapter in a day. Instead, I write one teaching point, then schedule the next. Small wins build momentum.
HOW DO YOU STAY ON TRACK?
It all starts with a plan.

For me, every phase gets chunked out on my calendar and each step gets logged into my calendar, color-coded for clarity. Milestones stand out in one color, and smaller tasks stand out in another. And the best part? I’m not doing this in a vacuum. My team, colleagues, and mentors are my secret weapons, offering insights and lessons to make the process more efficient.
As you tackle your big 2025 goals, be aware of burnout. Burnout is the silent killer of big dreams. I’ve faced it, and my instinct is always to shut down. But I’ve learned to prepare: daily check-ins, redistributing tasks, and celebrating every small step keep me moving forward.
If you’re leading a team into 2025, don’t do it alone. Share your vision. Get buy-in. Let your team contribute their expertise. Big goals aren’t achieved in isolation—they’re realized through collaboration.
And remember: big plans don’t require big leaps, they require small, intentional steps.?
