The Power of Slowing Down: How Rest Builds Resilience

The Power of Slowing Down: How Rest Builds Resilience

We live in a world that glorifies busyness. The constant push to achieve, do, and be more often leaves us drained throughout our year.

The key to success isn’t in pushing through but in slowing down.

Slowing down isn’t about doing nothing—it’s about creating space for restoration, clarity, and resilience. Resilience isn’t built in the tough moments. Resilience drains in the tough moments. Other things build in the tough moments like confidence, grit, commitment, but resilience is a resource that’s built in preparation.

Taking a holiday or moments between work is the perfect time to reflect, restore, and heal from the demands of work.

Instead of filling every free moment with distractions, take a pause and ask yourself:

  • What do I really need right now?
  • What am I holding onto?
  • What am I distracted by?
  • What am I fearing?

The truth is, if you don’t take the time to recover, it will affect your family, your leadership, and your goals.

We often see the cost of slowing down, but rarely do we acknowledge the cost of constantly pushing forward. If you don’t recover now, how will it impact your ability to show up for the rest of 2025? (or any other year)

One of the best ways to truly restore is by setting aside intentional recovery time. Even small moments of stillness—30 minutes of journaling, a walk without your phone, or simply breathing in silence—can help you process the challenges of the past year and prepare for what’s next.

Use that relaxation time to go:

  • who am I?
  • How do I need to heal?
  • How do I need to move forward?
  • How do I need to get excited?

When you prioritize recovery, you don’t just restore yourself—you restore your ability to lead, to make decisions, and to show up fully for the people who matter most. Your team, your family, and your future self will thank you for it.

So ask yourself: What does rest need to look like for me this year to start and continue 2025 strong?

Give yourself permission to take time to rest.

Because resilience isn’t built by pushing through—it’s built by knowing when to pause.
