Power Skills
PMI Netherlands Chapter
The PMI Netherlands Chapter represents PMI in the Netherlands.
Welcome to this edition of the PMI Netherlands Chapter newsletter, where we’re focusing on the essential role of Power Skills—those invaluable skills that are key to project success. Today's project managers know that technical knowledge is only part of the equation; skills like communication, adaptability, and emotional intelligence are just as crucial.
In Power Skills for Effective Stakeholder Management, we delve into how these skills are used across the four stages of stakeholder engagement—from identifying stakeholders to monitoring ongoing engagement. You'll learn how active listening and empathy help uncover key stakeholders while adaptability and critical thinking can keep engagement strategies effective throughout the project lifecycle.
If you’re interested in seeing how power skills apply beyond the boardroom, My Father Is... a Project Manager by Ralf van Haastregt shares a delightful story of introducing project management to young minds, using creativity and teamwork to show children the basics of planning and collaboration.
Join our community and share in the learning and growth. Volunteer stories like Introduction of Our Volunteer, Maria Savushkina, showcase how power skills like connection-building and giving back have fueled meaningful contributions. Whether you're interested in mentoring, communications, or community outreach, these roles offer unique ways to grow both personally and professionally, and to contribute to our shared learning journey.
For inspiration on using power skills in complex projects, we recommend checking out The Review: The Goal by Alejandro Fernández. This classic on managing constraints and driving efficiency in project environments underscores the power of continuous improvement—a key mindset for every project manager.
Apply your Power Skills and bring more value to your projects and teams. Dive in and see how these skills can transform your project management approach. With these skills, you'll feel more competent and capable, ready to take on any project challenge.
