The Power of Singular Focus
My grandmother would break coconut into two pieces with a single stroke by knowing where to hit to get clean cut. Whenever I try to break the coconut, inevitably I end up damaging the shell and not creating a clean cut.
Many times our lives get dragged in multiple directions, where we end up doing too many things and hence lack focus to finish the most crucial work in the best possible manner. We keep hitting at the wrong place to make an impact and eventually damage the product or work. What we really need is to have that singular focus in the area where we feel we can make a difference. This can happen only when we have laser sharp focus with the knowledge of maximum output, just like my grandmother did with the coconut.
Product Development, an area where I specialize in and lead, requires this kind of singular focus. Going from napkin sketch to production with millions of parts can only be achieved by focusing only in the areas that moves the needle in the most optimum amount of time.
Whenever we wake up and start our day, we need this vision and focus. Have we tried today to engage in an activity that requires highest level of focus and at a place where we can make the difference? If so it is great to be able to do that, if not take time in creating that niche for yourself.
