UNC-TV Amplifies Non-Profits’ Work & Impact—New Special Premieres Thursday, September 5
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC, August 20, 2019 — UNC-TV Public Media North Carolina is pleased to announce that it will amplify the impact that local non-profits are making withThe Power of Sharing special, premiering September 5, 2019, at 9 PM, on its UNC-TV PBS & More Channel. This two-hour program showcases the ways in which businesses in the Triangle have come together to create The Power of Sharing collaborative funding forum, capped by an annual black-tie gala awards ceremony.
The Power of Sharing—whether it’s giving of time, talents, resources or passions—offers tremendous impact on communities. UNC-TV’s production ofThe Power of Sharing awards ceremony highlights how diverse non-profit organizations throughout the greater Triangle area are providing vital services, engaging communities and finding solutions to our state’s biggest challenges.
“Very often the work of non-profits can go unnoticed,” said UNC-TV Chief Content Officer Travis Mitchell. “With our production ofThe Power of Sharing we are able to demonstrate the high-level impact that non-profits are having throughout the Triangle region and across North Carolina.”
The Power of Sharing begins with all-new material showcasing the concept and background of the Power of Sharing collaborative, along with UNC-TV’s strong commitment to supporting nonprofits. As part of this charge, UNC-TV is developing a robust web platform to amplify the vital work of non-profit organizations serving the Triangle area, as well as serve as a means to connect concerned citizens with resources and information for bettering communities. This initial segment features interviews with participants and partners in the 2019 Power of Sharing Gala, as well as interviews with several staff members. Following this in-depth introduction, viewers will be treated to a front-row seat at the 4th Annual Power of Sharing Gala, held May 23, 2019, in Raleigh.

Leading up to the September 5 broadcast premiere of The Power of Sharing, short-form videos from the special will be shared over UNC-TV’s Facebook and Twitter accounts and available on UNC-TV’s video platform.

Now entering its fifth year recognizing recognize the tremendous impact local non-profits are making throughout the community, The Power of Sharing is a collaborative funding forum created by the Coastal Credit Union Foundation along with Triangle-based businesses. Selected nonprofits receive a financial award to assist them in their efforts. Two finalists for each category are chosen and spotlighted during the annual springtime The Power of Sharing Gala in Raleigh. A substantial gift will recognize the overall winner. Non-profit organizations located in or servings communities in Wake, Durham, Orange, Johnston, Harnett, Lee, Chatham, Person, Granville, Nash, Vance, Franklin, Warren, Halifax, Edgecombe and Wilson Counties are eligible to apply.
