The Power of Restful & Restorative Sleep

The Power of Restful & Restorative Sleep

I was taught that regeneration occurs after about 5 hours of sleep, so if you are not getting more than that you are missing out on what your miraculous body can do for you!

Your body works hard while you are sleeping to regenerate, as well as detoxifying and creating protective reserves to process what has happened during the day. With adequate sleep, tissue renews at a faster rate as the brain releases hormones for restoration and growth, collagen production which combats fine lines & improves skin elasticity, your body’s hydration levels rebalance, and toxins are flushed out. Without enough sleep, small toxic breakdowns stay on the skin and in the body. Skin uses moisture while we sleep as it flushes out toxins via sweat. Poor water balance shows up as under eye circles and bags alongside dryness that highlights visible wrinkles.

When sleep is interrupted or insufficient, stress hormones increase, raising the chances of inflammation from lowered immunity that shows up as acne, psoriasis, eczema and dermatitis and skin sensitivity. Sleep must be uninterrupted to eliminate the toxins.

Here are 10 tips to elevate your quality of sleep:

1.????Cold, soft sheets (natural fibers—linen, Pima or Egyptian cotton, 400+ thread count)

2.????Room temperatures—heat can negatively affect REM and increase wakefulness, so make sure to lower the temperature of your room

3.????Complete darkness—room darkening shades or a comfortable eye mask

4.????Electronics in another room

5.????To avoid frequent bathroom visits, limit your liquid intake prior to bed

6.????White noise can be comforting or meditation music to help you relax

7.????Quiet your mind before going to bed, even 10 minutes of mindfulness will help

8.????Avoid listening or watching negative/stimulating broadcasts of any kind right before bed

9.????Every hour of sleep before midnight has the effect of two hours after

10.?Make a gratitude list of 3-5 things you are grateful

May tonight be your best sleep ever!
