The Power of Replicable Delivery Systems: A Case Study on ONDC vs Swiggy/Zomato
As a business designer, I have been exploring the power of replicable delivery systems that can be adapted and deployed across different industries and geographies. In this article, I want to share my insights on the price comparison between ONDC and Swiggy/Zomato, two popular food delivery platforms in India, and how the power of replicable systems has helped us build a sustainable and profitable ecosystem.
Price Comparison: ONDC vs Swiggy/Zomato
My understanding of the analysis of key metrics, location, and time revealed that Swiggy, even after discounts, was 95% more expensive than ONDC. Both Swiggy and Zomato charge delivery fees, which they claim goes to their delivery partner, whereas on ONDC, most deliveries were free.
This price difference can be attributed to the fact that ONDC is not an aggregator but an ecosystem partner. ONDC enables businesses to leverage its delivery platform and leverage a web-powered application as a food delivery application based out of Germany. We have replicated the Delhivery platform technology in a liquor delivery application based out of India and are now adapting the same software to be deployed in the US for a QSR.
The Power of Replicable Systems
At the core of our approach is the power of replicable systems. We have designed a delivery platform that can be adapted and deployed across different industries and geographies, while also ensuring a consistent and seamless experience for end-users. By building replicable systems, we have been able to run ahead of the pack, not for a sprint, but for a marathon.
One of the key benefits of replicable systems is that they allow businesses to scale up rapidly without incurring significant costs. Instead of reinventing the wheel every time, we can leverage existing systems and processes and adapt them to new use cases. This has enabled us to build a robust ecosystem that can cater to the needs of different industries and geographies, while also ensuring profitability and sustainability.
The Importance of Being an Ecosystem Partner

Another key aspect of our approach is that we don't see ourselves as aggregators, but as ecosystem partners. As an ecosystem partner, we work closely with businesses to understand their unique needs and challenges and tailor our delivery platform to their specific requirements. This not only helps businesses to achieve their goals but also ensures a consistent and seamless experience for end-users.
Being an ecosystem partner also means that we take a long-term view of our relationships with businesses. We don't just focus on short-term gains but strive to build sustainable and profitable partnerships that can withstand the test of time. This has enabled us to build a loyal and committed customer base that trusts us to deliver high-quality services at competitive prices.
The power of replicable delivery systems and being an ecosystem partner has enabled us to build a sustainable and profitable ecosystem that can cater to the needs of different industries and geographies. My understanding of the analysis of the price comparison between ONDC and Swiggy/Zomato highlights the importance of building replicable systems that can help businesses scale up rapidly without incurring significant costs. By being an ecosystem partner, we have also been able to build long-term and profitable partnerships that benefit all stakeholders involved.
As businesses continue to navigate an increasingly complex and competitive landscape, replicable systems and ecosystem partnerships will become even more important. By embracing these principles, businesses can build sustainable and profitable ecosystems that can withstand the test of time and deliver high-quality services at competitive prices.
