The Power of Reflection

The Power of Reflection

I love taking a moment to sit down and reflect on the week that has been. It’s a big part of our “always curious” value that I hold so dearly. This week, for me, was a reminder about the importance of prioritising my time and managing my energy.

It’s funny—this is literally a course we train and run regularly, and yet, even when we know the theory, it’s so important to check in on our current practices and habits because we can all become unstuck at times.

Last week, my normal routine changed. Our usual Monday meeting and office day shifted to Wednesday, which threw off my standard flow. I had a moment sitting in the office on Wednesday where I could feel a flutter in my heart. It was racing a little faster than usual. At first, it was a bit concerning, but I reminded myself to trust my instincts. I took a few deep breaths and turned to the person next to me, sharing how I was feeling in that moment. I leaned into the discomfort and asked myself, out loud, “I wonder what’s going on for me?”

That self-inquiry is always such a critical step in finding our peace and calm.

Once I paused to reflect, I realised exactly what was happening—I was all over the place!

Emails were piling up, calls needed to be made, trackers had to be updated, new bookings were coming through (great problems to have!), potential clients needed follow-ups, and proposals had to be written. Not to mention the usual weekly tasks—social media posts, school drop-offs and pick-ups, organising things for school, plus making space for my team and, of course, myself. Where was I going to fit in exercise, meditation, and even a moment to eat?

It was a lot. And in that moment, my body was telling me exactly how I was feeling—overwhelmed.

It’s been a slower start to the year for us, by design. I took a month off over Christmas, which meant easing back into work. But this week, it felt like I was right back in the middle of the race! And while I love being in the thick of it, managing my energy is absolutely essential.

So, in that moment, I took a deep breath and asked myself, “What’s going on for me here?”

I realised I was overwhelmed and needed to get myself sorted. I pulled out my trusty notepad and textas, opened my Monday board, and started re-prioritising everything for the rest of the week.

At the time, it felt like I didn’t have the time to stop and sort everything out. But now, as I write this reflection on Saturday morning, I feel accomplished and complete. It was, as always, a great use of my time.

I wonder—how do you prioritise?

First I ask myself, WHAT IS MY MOST IMPORTANT GOAL RIGHT NOW?

From here, I look at my task list and map it back to my goals. I love using the trusty Eisenhower Matrix, looking at what is Urgent and Important quadrants.

?? Urgent + Impoartant - DO IT!

?? Not Urgent + Important - DECIDE.

?? Urgent + Not Important - DELEGATE IT!

?? Not Urgent + Not Important - DELETE IT!

Once I have ranked my tasks, within that, I sort my activities into different themes:

?? Client-related work

?? Team-related tasks

?? Admin

?? Other projects, like Vinnies QLD CEO Sleep Out fundraising or planning our upcoming Goddess in the Boardroom program for later this year.

My Monday.com boards help me rank and prioritise these activities, and I always take a moment at the end of the week to reflect and celebrate what I’ve achieved. I’m sure this isn’t foreign to anyone reading this!

My key takeaway?

Listen to your body. Pay attention to the signs it’s giving you.

When things don’t feel calm, composed, and in flow, take a step back.

Reflect, reset, and replan.

That way, at the end of each day and each week, you feel a sense of achievement, pride, and accomplishment.

Wishing you a week of meaningful progress—both in work and in life.
