The Power of Reflecting

As individuals, we all possess unique qualities that make us who we are. These characteristics are what make us stand out from the crowd. Although some people spend their entire lives searching for their special abilities, there is one power that we all share - the power of reflection.

During my return to college, I took an Intro to College class that is mandatory for all undergraduates. After struggling through a challenging math course, I was relieved to be in what was considered an easier class. I anticipated gliding through the class and obtaining a passing grade with no problems. However, I left the class with a newfound skill that has since become a strength.

The course comprised of readings, discussions, and reflections. I valued each of these offerings, but I found that reflecting on my experiences provided me with a deeper connection to the class. Reflection allows individuals to gain a greater understanding of what they have gone through. When we reflect, we engage in critical thinking and analysis, two essential skills for personal growth.

The weekly reflection assignments were vital for our educational journeys. They allowed us to contemplate our educational experiences and how they shaped our journey. Not only was this important because we are currently on an educational journey, but it also gave us the opportunity to plan for the future. Reflection permits us to evaluate ourselves, who we are, and who we aspire to be. By thinking more profoundly and deliberately about our experiences, we can begin to shape our future.

There is power in knowing yourself and your aspirations. It is essential to understand where you have been and where you want to go. This power fosters self-confidence and enables us to understand that our experiences can guide us toward our future selves. When we realize this power within ourselves, we are empowered to express our desires and aspirations. If you haven't taken the time to reflect on your accomplishments, take a moment to do so.
