The Power of Recovery: An introduction to lent and addiction recovery.

Hi everyone.

Its the first day of Lent today and while I know not all of you observe this 40-day period of fasting and prayer leading up to Easter I feel inspired to take action this year so, I'm going to give up watching TV during this period and I'm also going to write a short article for each day of lent in the hope that it might inform and inspire you in your recovery journey as well.

I'm writing from the perspective of someone in long-term recovery from addiction, as a director Towards Recovery CIC and as a management consultant in the drug and alcohol sector for Green Apple Consulting Limited as well. Let's dive in.......

The Power of Recovery: An introduction to lent and addiction recovery.

Welcome to Day 1 of our lent coverage on addiction and recovery. Lent is a time of reflection and renewal, a time when we can take a step back from our daily routines and focus on our spiritual and emotional well-being. For those of us in recovery, lent can be a time of heightened awareness and a chance to deepen our commitment to our recovery journey.

Addiction is complex and affects individuals and communities worldwide. Whether it's drugs, alcohol, and/or other addictive behaviours, addiction can have a devastating impact on a person's health, relationships, and overall quality of life. However, recovery is possible, and many individuals have successfully overcome addiction and achieved a life of sobriety and purpose.

At Towards Recovery CIC and Green Apple Consulting Limited, we believe in the power of recovery and the importance of a holistic approach to addiction and recovery. We work with individuals and organisations in the addiction, recovery, criminal justice, and social care fields to provide support and guidance on how to initiate and sustain recovery, find and integrate into community, and build a fulfilling life in sobriety.

Recovery is a process that requires time, effort, and dedication. It's a journey of self-discovery, healing, and growth. Recovery is not just about stopping the use of substances or addictive behaviors; it's about developing a new way of life that supports long-term wellness and happiness. Recovery requires a commitment to making healthy choices, building healthy relationships, and cultivating self-awareness and self-care practices.

As we embark on this lenten journey, lets remember the power of recovery and the hope it brings. Let us commit to taking care of ourselves and each other, to being open and honest about our struggles, and to embracing the gift of a life in recovery. Stay tuned for tomorrow's article on "Understanding Addiction: What causes addictive behavior and how to recognize it."
