The Power Of A Professional Story In Business
Kim Thompson-Pinder (The Extraordinary Word Ninja)
There is one element of marketing that is consistently overlooked but has the surprising effect of being able to double your lead generation with minimal effort.
Let me introduce you to George, a middle-aged B2B Business consultant. He was excited because he got to share for 15 minutes at a business building conference where he hoped that it would bring in a substantial amount of leads for his company. He stood behind the stage listening to the current speaker and thinking, “Man, he’s good.” He thought about his talk and got nervous because he knew it wasn’t good compared to this other speaker.
The other gentleman ended his speech with lots of applause and headed toward the back of the room to answer questions and many followed him.
The host introduced George and for the next 15 minutes, he gave his speech. Several people got up during it and walked out of the room, which made George so nervous, that he lost his place in his notes and struggled to keep going while he found his spot. At the end, there was a half-hearted applause, and no one followed him to the back of the room to find out more about what he did.
The main speaker who had done so well, came up to him and asked, “Hard day?” “Yeah, everything up there went wrong, I blew it.” “I hear ya, my first couple of talks did not turn out well either. Can I share with you what a wise speaker shared with me, when I was in the same situation?” “Yes, please.”
“Share your knowledge in the form of your story. People instinctively connect with stories and the people who tell them. Create your professional story that relates to what your target market is going through.”

“I have no idea how to do that. Can you help me, or do you know of someone that can?” “Yes, I can help you. I love helping inspiring consultants like you, to create their professional stories…”
Over the next few months, they worked together and the next time that George got on the stage, he owned it and many people started to work with him because of it.
Credibility is often underrated and not talked about much in selling high-ticket services, but when you have it, generating leads and converting them becomes a quicker process. One tool that you can use to create instant rapport and credibility with potential clients is your story. We are hard-wired as people to relate to stories. It reaches the subconscious parts of our brains and if the story is similar to the ones we tell ourselves you instantly become relatable to them.
Think of it like your TED-Styled talk that shares a captivating story with a powerful message. When you combine those two together you become unstoppable.

10 个月The power of a personal story is very profound for both marketing and often to impact change. I got 33 contracts working with a group in Ontario over 3 years. In part because of one of my storys about dealing with a life-altering health issue and how I chose to cope. That lead to another client with 26 contracts over 24 months. Yes stories matter.
