Former US President, Abraham Lincoln is famed to have said, “If I had eight hours to chop down a tree, I’d spend six hours sharpening my axe” reiterating the power of preparation.
Preparation is perhaps the single biggest determinant of success. Truth is you may be the most talented or the most ambitious but without adequate preparation, chances are you may be operating at a suboptimal level.
Professional soccer players train a minimum of 4-6 hours a day, some even more, five times a week just to play a 90-minutes game. Some of the most successful CEOs and business leaders in the world read an average of 60 books a year – that’s 5 books a month – to expand their knowledge base.
What do these two have in common? Preparation.
Training the body and the mind provides the skills and knowledge required to be best on the field and in the boardroom respectively.
What’s your area of operation? How are you faring? Will you consider yourself one of the best in your field? If your answer is yes, chances are you have invested time and resources into preparing; training yourself and constantly retooling to ensure you fully leverage your potential.
If not, perhaps you need to invest more time in preparation.
Be great this week!
