The power of positive reinforcement
APJ Abdul Kalam mentions a beautiful story on the power of positive reinforcements rather than negative one's. It is a great lesson in Leadership and Management as well.
As a child, Abdul was about to fall from the tree in the face of a storm. His father shouted out to Abdul and said ' HOLD ON'.
APJ explains the importance of these two words which were used instead of 'DONT FALL'. The latter assumes that there is a possibility of a 'fall' and the mind is prompted to fight against it. In the first case, the mind is positively reaffirmed with the simple instruction of 'HOLD ON'.
It's a lesson for Leaders to make the same message in a positive tone rather than a negative one( at times, learn to use 'Yes if' instead of a 'No') and it could often be the key to successful leadership
