The Power Of Positive Attitude
Many young people would walk into my office with their CVs and their good grades and I would have to pick the person who I thought would be the best candidate among them. What do you think that one thing would be? What is that one thing that makes one person stand out from the rest and increases their chances of getting hired? The answer is simple. The answer is attitude.
It's a common misconception among job seekers that impressive credentials alone guarantee success. Many walk into interviews with a sense of entitlement, assuming their qualifications speak for themselves. However, what truly captures the attention of employers is the demeanour and attitude displayed within the first few minutes of interaction.
During my years of hiring experience, I've found that I can often discern a candidate's suitability within the initial moments of meeting them. While formalities like discussing educational background and work experience are important, it's the subtle cues of attitude that leave a lasting impression.
Consider the impact of a genuine smile, confident eye contact, articulate speech, punctuality, and attentive posture. These seemingly small details speak volumes about a candidate's mindset and approach to work.
Even if a candidate doesn't get the job, I try to provide feedback and tell them about the power of attitude. Sometimes these candidates have managed to improve on themselves having found areas to work on.
If you are reading this while preparing for your next job interview, this is one area you should not neglect.
