The power of personalization: Do more with a deeper understanding of your people

We are witnessing a turning point in healthcare and a significant shift in how people engage in their health & with their benefits.

Today’s consumers have heightened expectations for personalized interactions—in all aspects of life.

From shopping to banking to ordering food: consumers expect an experience that is tailored to them. And healthcare consumers are also looking for an experience that puts them at the center.

Because “if it’s not personal, it’s not for me.”

No two people are the same. We are all diverse with our own unique health story, wants and needs. And these unique needs require unique solutions. Meaning off-the-shelf benefits won’t cut it.

Personalized support sets you up to deliver better health outcomes. It's good for your people. Good for your business. And good for healthcare costs (a win-win-win).

People get excited when:

  • Health experiences are engaging, not exhausting
  • They see themselves represented in their benefits and resources
  • There’s something for everyone—but not the same thing for everyone

That is at the core of our mission. Because we firmly believe that health is personal.

And that better health starts with personalized support.

When you begin to see the full picture of your people, you can plan for what they actually need and:

  • Personalize engagement
  • Design better benefit options
  • And manage costs along the way

In this month's newsletter, we’ll talk through three clear calls to action from the market to support personalized health experiences, including:

  1. Managing?rising healthcare costs in 2025
  2. Increased demand for weight loss drugs and weight management support
  3. An urgent need to better support caregivers’ mental health and wellbeing

Let’s dive right in.

Health should feel personal, accessible, AND affordable

There has been a 50% increase in healthcare costs since 2017—a rather unsettling number.

And it's what Business Group on Health reported in its new 2025 Employer Health Care Strategy Survey . BGH also projects that healthcare costs will increase nearly 8% in 2025 (the highest rate in a decade) on top of the increases we’ve already seen.

These rising costs are untenable for most businesses. And they certainly aren’t feasible for employees who report significant financial strain and stress. In fact, 61% say affordability is the biggest barrier of the healthcare system.

With healthcare costs showing no signs of slowing down, what can organizations do differently?

You need a way to stay ahead of this trend.

Your solution? Invest in the health of your population. Because when people get healthier, costs go down.

Why employers should take a personalized approach to GLP-1s

GLP-1s, such as Mounjaro or Ozempic, have captured headlines and the interest of employers and employees, promising significant weight loss.

With obesity rates in the U.S. at 42% , many see GLP-1s as a potential solution for serious and costly diseases such as diabetes and obesity, and in fact, J.P. Morgan Research projects the GLP-1 market will surpass $100B by 2030.

The topic of weight management can be especially personal and complex. And the decision to cover GLP-1s is not one to be made lightly.

Over the last four months, our team has had over 60 client consultations to discuss recommendations for employers to manage this escalating cost trend and better support population health.

From those conversations, we’ve identified three best practices for employers today:

  1. Take a step back and frame out the situation. Pause to understand your population's needs. Remember, great health outcomes start with a greater understanding of people. Consider if you want to cover medication costs directly or reimburse employees, but always complement with a behavior change program for long-term outcomes.
  2. There’s no one-size-fits-all solution. Medications will not be a fit for everyone. Some will benefit from lifestyle changes like diet and exercise alone, while others need behavior change alongside the drugs. And even those using GLP-1s will have different experiences (going back to personalization!), making it essential to offer a support program regardless of coverage plan.
  3. Emphasize human support alongside digital tools. Digital capabilities are effective in many ways, but nothing replaces human expertise and support. Wraparound support is?key, so look for a solution that includes live experts who understand GLP-1s, their side effects, and the mental health effects.

Organizations need better mental health support for caregivers

The U.S. surgeon general recently expressed an immediate need to better support parents, caregivers, and families and called parental stress an urgent public health issue.

Nearly half (48%) of parents and caregivers describe themselves as completely overwhelmed. And 41% say most days they are too stressed to function. Let that sync in.

We need to better care for caregivers.

Did you know? Estimates show that 73% of employees also balance caregiving responsibilities.

From scheduling doctor’s appointments, to caring for an aging parent, or staying present in their child’s life—caregivers are all around us and they need our collective support. Now.
