The Power of Personalisation

In modern business, we have to stand out from the crowd. There is so much noise in the social media space; to get noticed you have to be outrageous, bold and personal.
An average senior position holder on LinkedIn gets about 5/10 connection request a day, and about 50 inmails a month - almost 90% of them go unopened, and almost every single one goes in to the virtual bin.
So how do you stand out? Let me tell you a story. I was once looking for job opportunities within the technology space, and came across a great company I’ve been following for a number of years. They had no jobs advertised when I was looking but I decided to follow the CEO and connect with him on LinkedIn. I'd done some research about him and the company prior to this, and in my request to connect, I sent him a personal message referencing a little bit about something he wrote in a blog, in addition to why I liked his company.
One week later, I found myself sat across the table drinking coffee with him - my approach got him to notice me; it was *different*.
This is the kind of marketing and approach that will get you noticed and will get you in front of your prospects. You have to care, or at least pretend to care, about the person you are contacting.
It’s not about buying the product. It’s about buying into the person.
5 simple steps you can take when prospecting a client
1. Identify which key decision maker you want to contact
2. Search for that contact on LinkedIn
3. Search their name on google for related news blogs
4. When contacting them, include a recent reference in the email subject
5. Make the first email about care rather than an attempt to hard sell.
Everyone is hard selling, try and be different and outrageous.

4 年Great points Amit. Due to the way we are all connected today you really have to stand out to make a difference. The first impression has the ability to make or break a business. A first experience that makes a difference can create long lasting business relationships. And as you said you have to care and I think you can't stand out without you caring, by default.
