It wasn’t until I started showing up consistently on LinkedIn and engaging on social audio platforms that I began to notice something interesting: I was unintentionally crafting my personal brand.
Why Personal Branding Matters
Your personal brand is more than just a buzzword. As Farah Mohamed wisely put it, “Your personal brand is the most important thing you own. Invest in yourself, and you’ll create a better future.â€
it’s about taking control of how you’re perceived in a world where impressions are often formed before you even walk into the room (or log into the Zoom call). Personal branding is the key to standing out in today’s digital landscape, where everyone seems to be shouting to be heard.
So What is personal branding?
At its core, personal branding is about defining who you are, what you stand for, and how you want to be seen by others. It’s not about trying to fit into a mold or mimicking what others are doing. Instead, it’s about embracing your unique experiences, values, and the expertise that only you can offer. Your personal brand is what people say about you when you’re not in the room. This perception is built over time through the stories you share, the content you create, and the way you interact with others, both online and offline.
As you invest time and energy into building your personal brand, the results can be transformative. I’ve seen it firsthand—starting from almost no online presence to becoming a LinkedIn Top Voice and writing for Entrepreneur Magazine. These milestones didn’t happen overnight, but they are a testament to the power of consistent, authentic engagement.

Steps to Build Your Personal Brand
Identify What Makes You Unique
Think about your strengths, experiences, and values that set you apart. What do you naturally bring to the table that others might not? This is the foundation of your brand—it's about understanding and embracing what makes you, you.

Create a Personal Brand Statement
Write a straightforward statement that captures who you are and what you stand for. This isn’t about lofty goals; it’s about being clear and honest about what you’re all about. Let this statement guide how you show up & present yourself online.
Show Up Consistently
Consistency builds trust. Make it a habit to share your insights regularly, whether through blog posts, social media updates, or engaging in discussions. The more consistently you show up, the more people will recognize and remember you.
Engage with Purpose
Building your brand isn’t just about putting content out there—it’s about meaningful interactions. Engage in conversations, offer genuine feedback, and support others in your network. This creates a two-way street where your brand grows through real connections.
Present Yourself Visually
Your visual presence—like your profile picture, cover image, and even the colors you use—should align with who you are. Keep it simple, but make sure it’s consistent across all platforms so people can instantly recognize your brand.
Optimize Your Online Profiles
Your online profiles, especially on platforms like LinkedIn, should clearly reflect who you are. Use a professional photo, a headline that gets straight to the point, and a summary that tells your story in a way that feels true to you.
Share What Matters
Regularly share content that’s meaningful to you and your audience. Whether it’s lessons you’ve learned, industry insights, or your take on recent trends, make sure it reflects your values and expertise. This is how you show what you stand for.
Build Relationships
Networking isn’t just about gaining followers—it’s about building real relationships. Connect with people who share your interests, collaborate on projects, and support each other. The connections you build will amplify your brand’s reach and impact.
Stay True to Yourself
As your brand evolves, always stay connected to who you are. It’s easy to get caught up in trends, but the strongest brands are those that stay authentic. Listen to feedback but make changes only if they align with your core values and vision. Authenticity is not just a buzzword.
