The Power of Opportunity Thinking to Scale your Business this Autumn


I have always unblocked thinking got my clients to focus on where the opportunities are for growth and I have developed that into a framework which will give you some thought as to the design of “Growth Boards”, Scale Boards and inhouse company Scale Programmes which I will be launching over the next number of years.

?Some businesses are struggling even though they are not doing anything wrong, and some are doing very well in the same industry. A number of business owners are tired and not clear about the future.

?Over the weekend I was thinking about the word opportunity. In the current economy there is a lot of gloom about the economy in the newspapers and in the media in general and the focus is on the country is doing badly and here is some thoughts that I hope will help.

?Opportunity is a powerful word that can serve as a framework for growing a business quickly. By recognising and seizing opportunities, you can accelerate the growth and success of your business. Here are some key areas where the word "opportunity" can guide your Scale strategy:

1.Mindset Opportunity refers to a way of thinking that embraces possibilities and approaches challenges as opportunities for growth. It involves having a positive and proactive outlook, seeking out new experiences, and being open to taking risks and trying new things. With an opportunity mindset, individuals are more likely to see setbacks as learning experiences, and they are more willing to step outside of their comfort zone to pursue their goals and dreams. Adopting an opportunity mindset can lead to increased resilience, creativity, and success in various aspects of life.

2. Market Opportunity: Identify untapped or emerging markets where your products or services can address a specific need or solve a problem. Conduct market research to understand customer demands and preferences and strive to position your business as the go-to solution. The Market Opportunity does not lie in your budgets it lies in taking a fresh look at your market and seeing what’s different good and bad and defining the opportunities that now exist.

?3. Innovation Opportunity: Continuously seek opportunities to innovate and improve your offerings. Explore new technologies, processes, and ideas that can differentiate your business and capture a competitive edge. Stay ahead of the curve and be open to embracing change.

4. Partnership Opportunity: Collaborate with other businesses and individuals to create mutually beneficial partnerships. Look for opportunities to leverage the strengths and resources of others to expand your market reach, access new customer segments, or enhance product/service offerings.

?5. Networking Opportunity: Take advantage of networking opportunities to connect with potential clients, investors, mentors, and industry influencers. Attend trade shows, conferences, and industry events to build relationships, gain insights, and create new growth opportunities.

6. Talent Opportunity: Invest in attracting and retaining top talent. Create a company culture that fosters creativity, innovation, and growth. Seek out opportunities to hire individuals who bring diverse perspectives and skills to the table, as this can contribute to fresh ideas and better decision-making. Sow the seeds of your recovery and ongoing growth now.

?7. Sales Opportunity: Analyse your sales process and identify areas where there is room for improvement or expansion. Explore different channels, such as e-commerce platforms, partnerships with retailers, or direct sales strategies, to maximise sales potential.

8. Customer Opportunity: Understand your customers' needs, desires, and pain points. Continuously seek opportunities to upsell, cross-sell, or tailor your offerings to meet their evolving expectations. Provide exceptional customer service to build loyalty and generate positive word-of-mouth.

9. Learning Opportunity: Embrace a growth mindset and view every challenge or setback as an opportunity to learn and optimize your business strategies. Analyse data, seek feedback, and stay updated on industry trends to continuously improve and adapt your approach.

Remember, successful business growth requires a proactive mindset and a willingness to seize opportunities as they arise. By harnessing the power of the word "opportunity," you can create a strong framework for accelerated business growth.

?So how can Growth Boards help you achieve this.? They are aimed at Business £500k to £5m. They work in boards of no more that 12 members, they follow a proven agenda that runs from 8:30 am until 1pm. Each business is from a different industry but as like-minded individuals they see opportunities in each other’s business they share their ideas, and they complement each other’s skills sets.

They leave with actionable goals for the next month having all taken time to focus on strategic growth. Does it work, I have examples of growth of between £500k now 4 years later £12M. Learning opportunities - for me are the biggest one. Listening, observing, seeing things from different perspectives exploring them... shifting the mindset and then watching the other parts drop in!

This is an interesting board you are working on here Jim. I find this sector of growth and development to be quite exciting and purposeful. Opportunities are everywhere if you know what you are looking at or have experience in seeing the growth patterns of others.
