Benefits Of Chanting Om Namah Shivay –Om Namah Shivay is a salutation to Lord Shiva which consists of the five syllables or Akshars, namely ‘Na’, ‘Ma’, ‘Si’, ‘Va’, ‘Ya’. It is a part of a Hindu prayer, the Shri Rudram Chamakam, that is found in the ancient holy scripture Yajurveda. This mantra has to power to purify one’s soul and guide them towards a virtuous and divine life. The positive vibrations of ‘Om Namah Shivay’ lifts one’s spirits into previously unexplored planes of existence. According to shiva puran, if you chant it 110 crore times, you will be next brahma , yes this mantra can make you lord brahma himself. This mantra contains whole universe, if you constantly chant it, all powers of universe will help you as no power can overrule lord shiva. Chant it 10 crore times, and you will get enlightenment

I know a person, who chanted it 5 million times, his rival did black magic on him but he remained unaffected because of the power of this mantra, otherwise black magic can do anything, from death to mad anything. I was like most of the guys in my Post graduate class, although I always pure had heart that's why I got shiva close to my heart. I was full of jealousy, ego, hatred, lust and other bad qualities, I was so selfish, and 99% people are like this.

I started to chant it from the year 1980 (almost 42 years now), on Mahashivaratri night, it was the day when Shiva unlocked the door of devotion for me. I always say to people, devotion do not come easily, people want favours from god, so i advice them to chant this mantra constantly , this will make you selfless and pure and then you will feel shiva. The most favorite mantra of the devotees of Lord Shiva is the Panchakshari Mantra (??? ?????/Namah Shivay). Usually it is chanted with Om at the beginning (Om Namah Shivay). In Shiva Purana, Lord Shiva describes the various aspects of this mantra in a conversation with His wife Goddess Parvati. Lord Shiva says-

Devi! I have said many times with affirmation that even a fallen devotee of mine on earth gets freedom from all bondage by this “Panchakshari Vidya”. Those who do tapas (austerities) while drinking only water and taking only air as food and those who make their bodies thin by practicing various types of vratas do not attain my loka (abode of Lord Shiva). But those who worship me only once by the “Panchakshari Mantra” with devotion attain my loka. My devotees, whether they have taken the instruction of this mantra from their guru or not, should worship me with this mantra after conquest of anger. Those who have taken initiation of this mantra from a guru are considered crores (ten million) of times more superior to those who are not initiated.

So Devi! One should worship me with this mantra after taking initiation only. Those, who after getting initiated with this mantra worship me with devotion by practicing brahmacharya (celibacy) along with virtues like compassion and joy etc., get equality with me. What to tell more! Every devotee has a right on this mantra. That’s why it is better than the best mantra. By the power of this mantra the lokas, the vedas, maharishis, sanātana dharma, gods and the universe are sustained.
