The Power of Networking in the Final Quarter

The Power of Networking in the Final Quarter

As we head into the last quarter of the year, many of us review our goals and evaluate what still needs to be accomplished. Whether personal or professional, these final months are crucial for setting the tone for 2024. And there’s one often overlooked strategy that can make a world of difference—networking.

In my podcast Episode #6, I discussed the importance of Networking and Relationship Building as a tool for growth and success.

76% of people believe that networking is essential for career success, yet many don’t carve out enough time for it.

Why Network Now?

The last quarter is typically when businesses and individuals begin planning for the upcoming year. It’s the perfect time to connect with new people and re-establish relationships, ensuring you stay top of mind as new opportunities arise. Whether you're aiming for career advancement, looking for new clients, or simply trying to learn from others in your field, networking is the bridge to those opportunities.

But here's a critical tip: it’s not just about meeting people, it’s about being memorable. One way to do that is by creating a catchy, personal introduction that people will remember you by—something like “The Energetic Engineer” or “The Motivational Maven.” It’s a conversation starter and a way to stand out in a room full of people. This small, creative step can help set you apart and make networking more fun.

85% of job opportunities are filled through networking.

Create Time to Network

As we juggle the demands of the final quarter, it's easy to push networking to the bottom of the list. However Whenever you are in a place with new people: make it a priority. Whether it’s attending local events, reaching out for virtual coffee chats, or simply following up with someone you met earlier this year, now is the time to take action.

Start small. Dedicate 30 minutes a week to connecting with others. Over time, these small efforts will build a powerful professional circle that can support you in achieving your goals.

Last weekend I got a fantabulous opportunity to network with Ashley Kirkwood and some UNSTOPPABLE BLACK WOMEN at the Black Women Sell Live Conference and it was nothing but amazing. I highly recommend Any of the Speak Your Way to Cash Events as it speaks to the art of Networking with your Voice!

Want to kick-start your networking this quarter? Don't wait for an event. Recognize the abundance of opportunities for you to Network. However, if you are in the Houston, TX area Join me at the 2024 National Black Book Festival this weekend, the largest of its kind in the South! It’s an incredible opportunity to network, exchange ideas, and be inspired. I’ll be signing my books and Networking with book lovers and authors alike. I’d love for you to stop by and connect.

That’s right—building relationships is one of the most effective ways to open new doors, advance in your career, and reach your professional goals.

As we close out 2024, I challenge you to create the time—find 30 minutes to an hour or two each week dedicated to networking, reconnecting with colleagues, and building new relationships. When paired with accountability, you'll find yourself moving closer to your aspirations.
