I am writing this from a place different from my usual spot in Adelaide. Those that know me well may have guessed it but for those that don’t, I'm in sunny Perth, Western Australia!?
I'm here primarily to visit family however since being here, I saw an opportunity to explore and connect, something I've always encouraged each of you to do. And that's exactly what I did today.
As a proud member of BNI Evolve in Adelaide, I was excited to visit a local BNI chapter here in Perth - BNI Evergreen. I figure networking doesn't have a geographical boundary.
So you might be wondering why the extra effort during a family visit?
Firstly to have some "me" time (the last 10 days I have been a full-time Nanna) and remind myself that our comfort zone is a beautiful place, but nothing ever grows there...
I stepped out of mine today to meet new people. I shared ideas, heard from some great businesses, and have some wonderful 1-to-1 catch-ups planned with fellow BNI members in the coming days. Despite the unfamiliar setting and knowing no one in the room, our shared BNI values fostered an immediate sense of camaraderie.
So you see, networking really is a two-way street. It's all about showing up with an open mind, and, well, an open heart too. And let's face it, not every conversation you have is going to lead straight to a business opportunity. But that's perfectly okay. Never underestimate the power of a connection you make today that might only bear fruit somewhere down the line.
Networking is also about generosity and offering assistance where possible. When meeting new people, don't just think about how they can help you. Instead, consider the question: "Who do I know, what do I know and how can I help?" This proactive mindset not only helps build deeper connections for everyone but also reflects the core values of our BNI community.
So, you know, it doesn't matter if we're in Adelaide, Perth, or someplace halfway around the world, the spirit of networking follows us. It's about treating every chat, every meeting, as a chance to learn something new, lend a helping hand, and deepen our connections. Because, you know, the magic of networking and connection often happens when you least expect it.
And remember, it's not always about instant results, it's more about sowing the seeds, caring for them, and then watching them grow.
