The Power Move
Leadership, Trust and the Heart of Strong Partnerships
Leadership isn’t about always being in control. It’s about knowing when to step forward and when the strongest play is letting someone else take the lead. The best leaders don’t do it all. They build partnerships that make them stronger, positioning themselves for bigger wins.
Here’s how I learned that firsthand:
I knew exactly what I wanted. I had the strategy. The numbers. The position. I could have led the negotiation myself. I’d done this before. I could do it again.
?But great leadership isn’t about doing everything yourself. It’s about knowing when to make the right move.
?I saw the dynamics too clearly. I was too close. Not clouded. Just hyper-aware. And that’s when I knew. "I’ll set this up. I’ll position it. But someone else needs to make the ask."
?My business partner didn’t hesitate. "I’ve got it."
?No back-and-forth. No “are you sure?” No seeking validation. Just action.
And in that moment, I didn’t feel like I was giving something up. I felt stronger. Because this wasn’t about stepping back. It was about playing the hand with absolute precision.
?No one was saving me. He was executing the strategy we both knew was right.
?I sent one thing in response: ???Because he knew. I knew. And that was enough.
I used to think leadership meant showing up everywhere, all the time. Making sure you’re seen. Making sure you’re heard. Now? I know the truth.
Real leadership isn’t about control. It’s about knowing when to lead and when to let the right people take the lead.
This wasn’t playing small. This was power wielded with intention.
Who’s Your Business Partner?
A strong business partner isn’t just someone who works alongside you. They’re someone who amplifies your impact. They help you see blind spots, push when you need momentum and step in when the strategy demands it.
Too many leaders try to do it all, thinking control equals strength. But the real power move? Knowing when to lean on the right people.
When you have a business partner who understands the vision, you don’t have to second-guess every decision or carry the weight alone. You move faster. You make better plays. You win bigger.
So, ask yourself: Do you have a business partner who strengthens your strategy? Who sees the game as clearly as you do and knows exactly when to step in?
If not, maybe it’s time to find one. Because no one builds something great alone.
