The Power of the Mind: A Father's Regret

It’s Thursday Tale Time (TTT 20/2024).

Today, I am sharing a story from Osho's disclosure "Kahe Kabir Diwana".

Chekhov was an exceptional writer from Russia. He wrote a story inspired by his own life.?

His friend's son disappeared from home approximately ten years ago. The friend was financially well-off. However, like many wealthy individuals, he was extremely stingy and his son didn't get along with him. The son made the decision to leave his family and run away. There was just a single son. The father was arrogant when he ran away, but his arrogance gradually diminished. A decade went by. Death drew nearer and nearer. It seemed unlikely that the son would return.

The old person felt that death could arrive at any moment. Various individuals were given the responsibility of locating his son, given that he is the exclusive owner of all the wealth. Nobody had any idea, but eventually, a letter arrived stating that the son was facing a serious crisis and was in a city nearby. He called up his dad, who insisted that if he came to?visit him, he would go back home. The son confessed that he doesn't have the confidence to come by himself. He is experiencing feelings of shame. He has the sensation of being a criminal.

Upon hearing his son's words, the father headed to the city. He stayed in a posh hotel. However, during the night he encountered an individual coughing and wheezing outside his hotel room. Consequently, he decided to open the door and instructed the man to leave immediately.? Are you going to allow me to sleep or not? The man is reluctant to leave due to the chilly night and snowy conditions. The?old man used his strength to throw him off the verandah. Then, he went and had a restful sleep.

When he woke up in the morning, he discovered a group of people gathered in the field near the hotel. A person has passed away. He also went to take a look. The clothes look like they belong to the same person he kicked out of the verandah yesterday. Once he went into the crowd and really looked, he realized he knew the face. He is the son of this person. Last night, he kicked his own son out.

If the mind does not know that he is his own, then he is not his own. If the mind knows that he is his own, then he is his own. The whole game is of the mind.

There was no concern until a moment ago. A group of people had gathered and there was a dead man lying on the ground. Nevertheless, in a matter of seconds, the father is in tears, inconsolable and lamenting the loss of his son.?The weight of guilt will haunt the old person for the rest of their life, knowing that he is responsible for his son's demise.

The game is wholly centered on the power of the mind. If it is proven at this moment, and someone else claims that this boy belongs to them, not you. You have misunderstood. Eventually, the tears will stop flowing. You will eventually regain the feeling of happiness. When the feeling in your mind changes, everything changes. A single moment has the power to alter everything in a complete manner.

What knowledge can be gained from this story?

The story highlights the mind's impact on our emotions and actions. Our mental recognition and awareness shape our reactions. A wealthy father unintentionally rejects his son, leading to his death. The story shows the immediate ability of the mind's recognition to change our emotional state. Overall, the story underscores the importance of awareness, compassion, and the profound impact of our mental states on our interactions and relationships.

What knowledge can be gained in a broader perspective?

Every human possesses a mind, rich with its own emotions and color, visible only to oneself. Our mind gives meaning to everything we experience, determining who we consider our own and who we see as strangers, who we deem friends, and who we label enemies. A friend is anyone who aligns with our desires, while an enemy is one who opposes them. Some people appear good to us, others bad; we crave proximity to some, distance from others. This is the mind's game. The world we perceive is shaped by our minds, though the truth itself remains unchanged. Transcending our narrow perceptions is crucial to reaching a higher state of consciousness and truth. By letting go of narrow-mindedness, we naturally cultivate genuine compassion, love, peace, empathy, and emotional connections.
