The Power of Mentorship: Lessons Learned from My Journey
Anthony J Ramirez Ll
IT Manager @ Generis | IT Infrastructure, HubSpot, Salesforce
Throughout my career, I’ve come to understand that mentors aren’t just leaders, they’re catalysts for growth. They push us beyond our limits, challenge our perspectives, and help us achieve things we never thought possible. For me, Julie McDaniel, my mentor and boss at Perle Systems, was exactly that.
Working under Julie’s guidance wasn’t always easy, but it was deeply transformative. Her patience, mindset, and unwavering commitment to excellence pushed me out of my comfort zone and taught me invaluable lessons that I carry with me to this day.
Mentorship That Makes a Difference
At Perle Systems, where I worked in a fast-paced and demanding environment, I was constantly navigating technical projects, optimizing processes, and learning to solve complex problems under pressure. Julie challenged me to meet high standards while giving me the room to develop my skills an approach that left a lasting mark.
What I appreciated most was her ability to balance challenges with support. She wasn’t there to hand out easy wins. Instead, she modelled resilience, discipline, and forward-thinking leadership, which forced me to become resourceful and adaptive.
Looking back, the lessons from Julie weren’t just about work. They were about mindset, how to approach problems, communicate effectively, and hold myself accountable even when the path wasn’t clear.
Building on Lessons Learned
After my time at Perle Systems, I’ve carried Julie’s mentorship into every role and project I’ve taken on. Whether as a Web Developer or now in my role as an IT Manager, I’ve applied what I learned:
Pushing Limits Builds Growth: I’ve learned to take on challenging projects and lead teams with the same mindset Julie instilled in me persistence and clear vision.
Patience Yields Results: Whether I’m working with co-op students or cross-functional teams, I’ve learned to approach challenges with patience and a focus on long-term success.

Learning Never Stops: Julie taught me to never settle for “good enough.” I continuously upskill, embrace new technologies, and adapt to emerging trends.
In my current role, managing 17 websites and overseeing integrations for tools like Google Workspace, HubSpot, and Salesforce, I find myself leaning on her leadership principles every day. Whether coordinating teams or finding solutions to complex challenges, her influence continues to guide me.
Why Mentorship Matters
Julie’s impact has taught me that mentorship is about more than offering advice, it’s about inspiring growth and creating opportunities for others to succeed. Mentors give us the courage to aim higher and the tools to reach those goals.
This experience has also made me passionate about paying it forward. Today, I find immense satisfaction in mentoring students, co-op interns, and junior colleagues. I strive to provide the same balance of challenge, patience, and encouragement that Julie showed me.
Final Thoughts
I’ll always be grateful to Julie McDaniel for the role she played in my professional journey. Her guidance pushed me to be the best version of myself, and for that, I’m truly thankful.
