The power of making GOALS

Last month, one of my childhood friends contacted, who is a government teacher at a Senior Secondary School in one of Madhya Pradesh's villages, stated that Rahul, the guest lecturer you delivered three years ago on the "Importance of Making Goals in Life," has touched the majority of the students in their lives. Many of them have accomplished their objectives after graduating from high school.

One specific example he gave was of a student from a low-income family; his father was working as a temporary contract laborer, not having enough money to feed his family twice a day, having qualified for the Engineering Entrance Exam, and aspiring to become a qualified Engineer.

When I was invited to give a guest lecture at a government school, which I had never done before because I was always giving guest lectures at various engineering and management institutes in India, I was thinking about what I should teach them while interacting with government school students who are unfamiliar with the outside world, technology, and other things. One idea that sprang to me was to communicate the necessity of setting goals, which is the one thing that can make anyone successful.

So, I did the same thing and taught them the importance of setting objectives for everything they want to achieve and gain (showing some unforgettable photographs in the Newsletter header pic). I had to put something significant in front of the students to help them succeed in life, and I'm glad I did.

Let me underline the more visible component of establishing GOALS: "the power of setting goals." Before we continue, I'd like to clear up one common misperception about Hopes, Dreams, Wishes, and Goals. The first three appear to be good words, but they differ in achieving anything from setting goals. Most people want to accomplish many things by hoping, dreaming, and wishing. These are not feasible, but I've discovered that simply hoping, dreaming, and wishing for something to happen does not work. However, it seems that it must be appropriately supported by thorough planning and focused actions centered on your goals.

In my experience, I have questioned numerous students, corporate executives, relatives, and others, "What is your life goal?" Surprisingly, I received an answer that they would like to attain many fantastic things, such as a higher position, good health, higher social status, and so on. Still, when I asked what they were doing to achieve this, they were blank and needed a strategy in place, which is why most people fail to reach their goals because they limit themselves to hoping, dreaming, and wishing at the end of the day.

Why do some people achieve all their objectives while others wish for a better life? Before answering this topic, let me go over some of the most common goals people/individuals have today.

1. A person can consider increasing their income by 2X, 3X, 5X, 10X, and so on.

2. An organization aims to exceed revenue targets by twice or three times the prior year's revenue.

3. A student wishes to earn the highest possible score in a particular exam among all participants.

4. A sportsperson or team wants to win the top spot in any competition in which they compete.

5. A spiritual Guru wants salvation in their life.

People may have many additional goals in addition to the ones described above. Still, the critical point here is that having goals is one thing, but knowing how to attain them and finally achieving them is another. We must recognize that plans differ from dreams, wishes, or hopes. Goals are specific, written down, measurable, and time-bound. I think the objectives above are attainable if they are prepared well.

There are four primary reasons why I discovered that only some people have specified goals.

1. They believe that goals are unimportant.

2. They must learn to set goals.

3. They are afraid of failing.

4. They are afraid of being rejected.?

Research conducted at Harvard Business School for MBA graduates between 1979 and 1989 discovered that just 3% of the MBA graduates had documented goals and plans, while the remaining 97% had yet to define goals. As a result, individuals with clearly established goals earned ten times more than the remaining 97% of students.

The underlying argument here is that goals provide a sense of meaning and purpose and a clear understanding of direction. You feel happier and more vital as you work toward your goals. You have more energy and are more effective. You have greater competence and confidence in yourself and your abilities.

Finally, having defined goals with plans and activities may accomplish anything, which is the strength of Goal Setting.

So, set your goals today, and you'll have everything you desire sooner than ever imagined.
