The Power of Loving Persistence

Welcome to March!
?
One more month of cold and then we are into Spring which I cannot wait for.
?
I don't know about you, but even just seeing a little bit of sun last week had a really positive impact on my mood, which got me super excited for the warmer days that are on their way.
?
I've been thinking about how I need to be better at keeping on at people, and I don't mean this in a bad way, I'm talking about it in a loving way.
?
The current cycle I see so many people stuck in, be it in a professional setting or a personal setting, is this:
?
Person A Gives feedback?
Person B doesn't change ?
Person A reminds them of feedback
Person B doesn't change?
Person A gives up reminding person B?
Person B doesn't change.
?
This cycle could be something like a manager looking for improvements from an employee, it could be someone asking for more interaction from a friend, or it could be a conversation between a couple about something that bothers one of them.
?
The hardest bit is giving the initial feedback which I touched on a few weeks ago, although we should all now hopefully recognise that feedback is a gift and is very valuable.
?
However, it feels like stepping up to give the feedback takes so much of our energy that we then don't have the energy to be persistent about ensuring that change happens.
?
We have got to do better at staying on peoples cases, but as I said, in a loving way.
?
A big part of the problem here is that once we stop giving a person these ‘loving nudges’, their attention is no longer on the problem, and what's even worse is they may think that they are doing better because you've stopped pulling them up on it!
?
In some ways this can be seen as giving up on someone, and in my opinion, not keeping on to people when the intention around it is for their benefit and their growth is a huge disservice.
?
Now I'm aware this may sound like a very pesty and micromanagey way to operate, and their are many people who will not want you constantly pulling them up on their area of improvement, and this is why you need to work out how this process look WITH them, not for them.
?
If you can get their buy in to solving the problem, and you can get agreement from them which encourages you to communicate with them in real time when things aren't going so well, it becomes a win win.
?
This isn't about policing people and problems, it's about committing to making change happen.
?
I'm sure everyone can thing of a time where they've brought up an area of improvement with a colleague, tried to help them improve it, given up, but subsequently still get bothered by the fact this is still a problem, whilst having no intention to tackle it again!
?
Or perhaps it's with a partner who does something that bothers you, and despite trying to tackle it, you've now given up and are just living with what ultimately is still an issue.
?
I can promise things will be better for both of you if you can work together to improve the way things are, but as I mentioned, this is a collaborative journey which requires buy in from both sides.
?
So, as you step into this week I encourage you to ask for and expect the best from others, to support them in getting there, to ask permission to give them that support, and to then stay persistent until you're both where you need to be.
?
Keep on keeping on!
Quote for the week

Court of Gold
Netflix
?
'In a new six-part series,?Netflix’s “Court of Gold” documents the 2024 USA Basketball Men’s National Team, delivering inside access of their gold medal journey in Paris. The series captures the pressure, brotherhood and talent of the Paris Games and highlights the journeys of the United States, Canada, France, Germany and Serbia.'
?
I can't say I'm a huge basketball fan, but after watching a handful of sports documentaries of Netflix such as ‘Sprint’ and ‘Simone Biles Rising’, I wanted to give this one a go, and so far so good!
?
I am always very excited to get into the minds of high performing athletes, and this series gives you the opportunity to do just that.
?
What's more, you get to see how different countries train and operate, and get great insight into how teamwork plays a part in teams successes.
?
A fun series to watch which will leave you inspired to achieve big yourself!

Project Book
?
I recently wanted to level up my organisation and note taking, and this has been massively supported by purchasing a project book.
?
This is simply a notebook that is seperated in sections by dividers so you can allocate different parts of the notebook for different things.
?
Typically I write everything down in one notebook and then cannot find what I need when I need it, which often causes problems!
?
Because I work with a range of organisations, having one notebook that has a section for each organisation in is perfect as I can always find what I need and I take that notebook with me everywhere.
?
Ultimately it's probably better than having a number of separate notebooks!
How can I help you?

I hope you have a fantastic week, and I'll be back in your inbox next week!
