The only locomotive powered by Battery
BOMBARDIER TRAXX Last Mile locomotive can be powered by catenary, diesel engine and battery. During the normal trip the locomotive picks up the energy from the catenary but in non-electrified line it can use its internal diesel engine with reduced speed.
Why also an internal battery?
Usually if a locomotive must be introduced in and out of depot for maintenance it must be towed by an electric locotractor in order to avoid to produce exhaust smoke inside the workshop but TRAXX L.M., with its internal battery, is totally indipendent running completely emission-free and reducing the maintenance stop due to the shunting operations. In addition, a radio remote control for shunting is available to increase its operational efficiency.

8 年Also interesting for railway companies offering the long haul, the last mile AND the shunting. Sometimes the yard or the end of it is not electrified...
Well done. Is it meeting with market price ?
The title is misleading as there are many other such as Alstom's Prima H3 or Gmeinder's DE75BB. so congrats for a certainly interesting concept, but get your messages right.
