The Power Of Language!

How you see the world depends on your perspective, how you re-present the stimuli that you take in with your senses. That re-presentation is described, evaluated with language, with words.
How conscious are you of the words you regularly use in your thinking patterns?
You see we all have habitual thought patterns.
Our default mode.
Those well-worn neural pathways that form our beliefs because we have thought them over and over again.
It’s not always easy to be aware of them until you consciously choose to do so. Then you can be quite surprised at the insight they give you to your underlying beliefs.
Our subconscious will do all it can to maintain those beliefs so that we stay congruent with them. Anything else causes cognitive dissonance and so is uncomfortable.
This is why it is so hard to change your opinion, your habits, your beliefs.
When you are aware of the language patterns that keep you in that “safety zone” whether comfortable or not, it gives you the power to do something about it… consciously.
How do you do that?
Consciously checking the language, you use to think and replacing it with the new way of describing the situation that fits in with your chosen new habit, new perspective.
This can be as subtle as moving from “I’ve got to do my accounts!” which carries the energy of drudgery, of heaviness, of necessity which doesn’t feel good, and we would rather avoid… so procrastinate! (or is that only me??!!)
To “I get to my accounts!” which carries a lightness, almost playful quality to it, especially when backed up with a “so that I can do…” something fun as a result!
Now which feels better to you? ??
That’s an amazingly simple and quite subtle example of the power of language. There are so many more when you start to become conscious of your language patterns.
This is the fun my clients have when we work on their internal communication. It’s all about conscious communication!
