The Power Of Language

The Power Of Language

Language, is one of our most fascinating communication tools.

We use it without thinking about it; in fact, we often use it without thinking! It is estimated that there are between 5000 and 7000 languages in the world. Thanks to the tower of Babel crew.

We start learning language by making bubbling and gurgling sounds from 3 to 6 months of age, and then, we spend years developing and crafting this vocalising tool to continue to communicate, to assimilate into this complex world we live in. Or not!

Ironically, decades later, many of us still struggle to express ourselves, even in our own mother tongue. We copy imitate and read…lift the lid of our heads and pour in all sorts of knowledge, truths and lies, in order to continue understanding and interacting with our fellow humans. We possess this astonishing oral gift that gives us and those listening, pleasure, power and potency.

You know, It is still extraordinary to me that our alphabet only has 26 letters. It’s like a shower head, turn on the tap and you get this rain of fabulous, fat sharp consonants. Add a little cold, and out spray your juicy vowels. This is the magic and drama of words that travel from brain to heart and tongue.

?It is this creative ability that I like to emphasise and encourage in my work as a book writing coach. It is the Art of communicating, connecting and engaging with friends, family, business partners, bosses and other entrepreneurs.?It’s a skill to learn and develop, to grow and cherish…because without it …there is misunderstanding, chaos and a lot of wars and conflict.

?It is important to be playful with your language, whether it is written or spoken. Try putting some zing in your verbs and honey on your adjectives. Be brave, shuffle and conjure up new phrases, cook up another colloquialism. Why not?

?The Oxford dictionary has added 700 words this last year.

Words are powerful, they can make or break friendships, romance, and business deals. They can cause change, revolution and death. Words can create abundance, happiness and peace. They say words never hurt you, but we know they can and they do hurt, because we can’t always control our reactions to them.

Don’t you get those situations where your brain says…no no no Georgia, don’t say it…but the words have already jumped out of your mouth?

I am sure you have regretted words you spoke. Felt bad, ashamed even guilty that you said things out loud in the heat of the moment, passionately, with heaps of emotion or even anger. It happens.

Words shape us and affect us and, if you add to it the conditioning and programming we receive at home, at school, in the religious houses/temples - you start to understand where our language originates.

As a book writing coach, it is my passion and my mission to encourage all of you, and especially women, to discover your unique voice, create your own sound, find your words to express your talents and expertise, and then turn it into a book.

More and more the need and demand to share our own experiences and points of view has become paramount in this precarious and divided world. We want to say it like it is, like it has been. These are the stories in demand.

Have you a topic, an issue that needs to be articulated? What concerns you? What matters to you? What is it that you would really like to write and talk about?

Often, what we need, is to be able to discuss and talk freely with someone who is open and knows more than we do. And this is the professional service I offer. A confidential place for you to be heard, understood and believed, so that you can write and publish your book.

You can arrange a book plan call with me to start this exciting process and check out the programs on my website too.

One thing that never fails to astonish me is that, despite being blessed with language (s), we still struggle to express ourselves and make ourselves heard. We let emotions get in the way and fail to convey our message; we do not know how to ASK; we forget to say THANK-YOU. We have difficulty in saying YES as well as NO.

Love this article Georgia Varjas! I couldn't agree more about the fun of being playful with words and phrases. And I find it fascinating that 700 words have just been added to the dictionary - language is indeed an infinite space!
