The power of just being Human
I have often thought that I seem to relate well to people from different countries.
I'm quite proud that I can see the person for who they are not where they are from.
I respect the person and in return I am shown respect
When in Italy I am certainly Martinelli.
In USA I am called what sounds like Merty.
In Ireland I'm Maaarten.
In Sri Lanka I had an Aussie Cricket cap on and was asked was I with the Team and I said I was a supporter.
This was translated as I was a reporter and I just had to go along with the story..
The fascinating conversation that ensued was priceless.
We connected as humans sharing a common interest.
I also hear people say that they feel like they have "Greek souls" as they can relate to their Greek friends really well at a great level.
I suggest we are at our best as humans - when we are simply being humans withour the tags we all assign each other.
I do relish the opportunity to engage with different cultures. I am intrigued by different customs and rituals. I respect that there are differences.
Love of family seems a common thread.
As does humour and the gentleness of smiling eyes.
So my it is my suggestion, as we move through, what may be another interesting year, let us all embrace one fact :
