The Power of Joining: A Businesswoman’s Perspective
Kimberly S.
KSTB Enterprises is more than a consulting firm—we're agents of change. We secure sustainable support from a diverse spectrum of sources at various levels including individuals, foundations, & corporations.
From a young age, my mother often told me I was a "joiner." Whether it was auxiliaries, clubs, or student organizations, I actively participated in various groups. Looking back, I believe she was right—I have always enjoyed being involved in things that interest me. Engagement has been more than a social endeavor; it has been a pathway to learning, networking, and contributing to something greater than myself.
As a businesswoman, I am inundated daily with invitations to join organizations, attend networking events, and partner with new initiatives. These requests come from all directions, each offering an opportunity for connection, influence, or impact. While I appreciate the value of collaboration and community, I have also learned the importance of discernment. My time and energy are finite resources, and I choose to invest them in organizations that align with my business goals or nurture my spirit.
Over the years, I have developed a framework for deciding which organizations deserve my commitment:
For me, the key to sustainable engagement is balance. I ensure that my affiliations serve either my business or my spirit—or ideally, both. I do not join out of obligation or for appearances; I join because I believe in the mission, the people, and the impact.
My mother was right—I am a joiner. But I am a selective one. I have learned that saying "yes" to everything leads to burnout, while strategic involvement leads to fulfillment and success. By carefully choosing organizations that align with my values and goals, I have created a network of meaningful connections that enhance both my business and my personal growth.
In a world filled with endless invitations and opportunities, the real power lies in knowing when to say yes and when to gracefully decline. Joining the right organizations has been instrumental in shaping my journey, and I continue to seek out affiliations that inspire, challenge, and uplift me.
For those navigating similar decisions, I encourage you to ask: Does this serve my business? Does this feed my spirit? If the answer is yes, then by all means—join.

This is spot on. I'm very intentional with where and how I spend my time. If I'm not able to grow from my interactions with a group of people, there's no need to be part of the number ????
