The Power of Intentions: Setting Your Mind on Success

The Power of Intentions: Setting Your Mind on Success

Yesterday morning, I had a coaching session with one of my VIP clients. This is a guy who is very successful, but when he makes a mistake, his go-to immediate response is to beat himself up. Then he jumps in to fix the mistake.?

I asked him, "What is the upside of beating yourself up?" to which he responded, "I want to ensure that I don't make the same mistake again."

Fair.

But here's the irony.

When he was beating himself up, he was hindering himself from fixing the mistake he'd made.

I pointed out that he didn't want to make the same mistakes over and over again, but here he was doing something that was hindering him over and over again.

Isn't that, too, a mistake?

Fair.

So now it's your turn. Are you beating yourself up when you experience failure? If so, how is that serving you? Why do you do it?

Maybe it's time to skip this step and jump forward directly into fixing the problem.

Or maybe, you need a moment to console yourself before taking action. A little self-compassion goes a long way.
