As a coach who works with mainly high-performing financial advisors and business leaders on the quest for peak performance and optimal productivity, we focus on this?
concept known as 'flow.' Flow is often described as feeling in the zone or wholly absorbed in an intentionally concentrated activity. This emotional state should be effortless; we should have laser like concentration and enjoyment, where time seems to slip away and accomplishments feel seamless. Most clients reference this as the “Energizing Activities” or what I also time block as my “Green Zone.”?
This may sound hokey, but most people say they try to focus, but I believe focus isn't enough. To get into a flow state, we must lock in and commit to “Intentional Focus.” Intentional focus involves directing your attention and energy toward a specific task or goal with purpose and clarity for a certain amount of time. By cultivating intentional focus, individuals can eliminate distractions, hone their concentration, and immerse themselves fully in the present moment.
To harness the power of intentional focus and transition into the flow state, we must establish a conducive environment that supports deep work and undisturbed engagement. This may involve creating a dedicated workspace, setting clear objectives, and committing to uninterrupted blocks of time where distractions are minimized or eliminated. It's kind of like a surgeon about to perform heart surgery on a patient.?
This is all comes down to a mindset! It's a fricken decision to lock in, get completely intentional, and be fully present in the moment. When I lock into my coaching calls, I imagine I am a surgeon about to perform the most critical surgery that could cost someone their life. Nothing else matters at that moment. I'm locked in! Now, there is always flexibility to this rule if, God forbid, something with my family comes up. But I have already set ground rules with my wife and kids about when I have client calls. They know not to interrupt me on calls unless it's a complete emergency.?
Another crucial aspect of intentional focus is setting intentions and goals that align with your values and passions. When your actions are driven by a sense of purpose and meaning, you are more likely to experience a level of inspiration and sustained focus, propelling you effortlessly toward the flow state.
By cultivating intentional focus through mindfulness, purpose-driven goals, and a conducive environment, you can achieve peak performance and experience the flow state in your business and life.?
