The power of Intention and the missing car key.

The power of Intention and the missing car key.

I had just completed a weekend long motivational course on the power of Intention and decided to celebrate the positive vibes with a good old fashioned hike at Runyon Canyon in the foothills of Hollywood. Most days I would get irked by all the agent, model, filmmaker convos that you would hear at Runyon. The barking’s in the phone, while hiking would especially get me wound up, but on this particular day, I was Mr. "nothing can go wrong".

I finished my hike and started heading to my car when I ran into two friends I hadn't seen in a long time, Chad and Tony. They were about to start a hike. Tony was visibly agitated, so I asked what was wrong. He explained that he had just run the whole of Runyon Canyon and had lost the key to his Benz. He was literally freaking out because he didn't think he had a chance of finding the missing key and that he would have to spend 2k, just to replace it and get into his car.

Mr. motivated aka yours truly, said "I'll come with you guy, let's retrace your steps and find your key". Tony said that it would be a waste of time and that there's no way we would find the key. I didn't give up and said "what do you have to loose Tony? There's 3 of us, if we retrace your steps, I guarantee we’ll find your key”. Chad chimed in "Gobi's right Tony, let's go for it, what do we have to loose". Tony acquiesced.

We started retracing his steps. Each time Tony would complain that it was an exercise in futility, I would rebut with a positive response. I would say "Tony let's just intend on finding your key. I promise we will". He would then shake his head and continue to walk. I looked everywhere I possibly could for the key, knowing I could find it if I intend on finding it.

We got done with 1/2 the hike and approached the upper gate near Mulholland Drive. Tony was totally deflated, when I spotted something that looked like a key at the top of a short pole. "Look there's a car key". Tony's eyes got wide and for the first time he had a smile on his face. We ran over to it and found that it was a car key, but the wrong car. It was a Chrysler key.

Again Tony went into his doom and gloom mode and said. "Man we're never going to find my key, this is stupid. Let's just go back and I'll call AAA". I didn't give up. "Come on Tony this is a sign. How many years have you done this hike and never found a car key? I've been doing it for 15 years and I've never found a car key. I'm telling you this is a sign. Let's just continue and we'll find it. " Again Tony was totally deflated, but I was gassed up. Chad was also excited that we had found a car key and didn’t want to give up.

We continued retracing Tony’s path again. I was looking in every single knock and cranny, visualizing the key along every step. We were about 500 feet away from the bottom east gate, where I saw something that looked like a key sitting on the bottom ledge of a notice board. “Look there’s a key”, we ran over to it. Again Tony lit up. I picked up the key. It was an Audi key.

This time I got a bit deflated cause we were at the end of the hike. We’d found two car keys, which had never happened before. We just hadn’t found his and the hike was over. “Holy shit” Tony said from a few feet behind me. He walked up to me, reached above my head and grabbed something from the message board. “My key”. Someone had found it and pinned it up top, on the notice board.

I’ve thought about this experience over the years, especially when I’ve faced obstacles that seem insurmountable. The power of intention does work. It’s almost like the Universe answers what you put out there. I say all this to say that, I can get doom and gloom at times, but have experienced the magic of applying intention. The right situation and people show up when you intend it, so be careful what you imagine happening. Have a lovely day.
