The Power of Group Training: How It Can Outperform Self-Paced Learning
In today’s fast-paced business world (accompanied with back to office mandates), keeping employees up to speed isn’t just a good idea—it’s survival. But let’s be honest: giving your team a bunch of self-paced training videos and hoping for the best is about as effective as handing someone a cookbook and expecting them to become a Michelin-star chef overnight.
The Stats Don’t Lie (And Neither Do We)
While these stats come from a myriad of different analysts firms, including leading firms like McKinsey, they all agree that these numbers and many more shine a bright light on the value of group training.
Why Group Training Works Better
1. Real-Time Interaction & Instant Clarity
Self-paced training is great—until you have a question and your only options are Google, YouTube or yelling at your screen. With group training, employees get real-time answers, potentially in their existing team environment, making sure they actually understand the material instead of just nodding along while secretly checking emails.
2. Training That Actually Makes Sense for Your Business
YouTube is great for learning how to unclog a sink, but when it comes to complex business training, generic one-size-fits-all content doesn’t cut it. Group training within your company means tailored lessons using real-life scenarios and tools your team actually uses.
3. It’s Like Team Bonding… But Useful
Nothing brings a team together like collectively struggling through a new process—except, in group training, you actually get help instead of just complaining in the breakroom. Employees collaborate, share insights, and learn from each other, building stronger teams in the process - and when they are align, performance increases across the board.
4. Accountability: The Magic Ingredient
Self-paced training is like a gym membership—great in theory, but easy to ignore. With group training, there's a schedule, an instructor, and peers keeping everyone accountable. That means higher participation, better results, and fewer “I’ll get to it later” excuses.
5. Learning That Sticks
Learning is all about retention and application. Hands on learning (like group training) hit 75%, compared to just 10% for passive learning (like watching videos). It’s the difference between learning and actually understanding.
