The power of a great network
I’m one of those people that rarely use facebook to say “Happy Birthday” or “Congratulations”, or Instagram to hear all about friends vacays… However, I do try to keep in touch with them via text and largely, and most importantly, you know, via the good ol’ fashioned “Let's grab a drink”.
Funnily enough, now that I’m working for myself and freelancing, I’m so much more aware that this tried-and-true method of staying in touch (and I mean really staying in touch) has kept me confident that when I’m talking about my work, the people I’m talking to are, a. really interested, and b. if they know of any upcoming briefs, they really will (and have) recommended me. For both, I am truly grateful.
It makes me think what does the future of business networking look like?
I remember years ago hearing the coined phrase ‘Bleisure Networking’. Now I guess in its grassroots form that’s what I’m ultimately doing. I can’t help but think that this is the only way to truly generate lasting business – it’s the most honest form of ‘likes’, ‘hi-fives’ and ‘hearts’ I can think of. And it speaks volumes.
So if you’re reading this, lets definitely grab that drink? I’d love to hear about the kids or that NY trip you’ve just got back from… (I’ve probably already sent you a message, but if not, you can expect one soon!)
