The power of generative AI: co-creating with Microsoft 365 Copilot

There’s no question: the rise of generative AI has quickly transformed the way we work, collaborate, and innovate. Across my team, we’ve been leveraging Microsoft 365 Copilot to co-create documents, streamline workflows, and even enhance our strategic thinking for a while now. What started as basic assistance for productivity gains and content creation, has evolved into using Copilot for true co-creation. In fact, it’s turned into a partnership—one where AI helps us find insights faster, initiate the first draft of documents, or amplify our expertise. There are innumerable ways to leverage generative AI to helps us be more efficient.

Here are some of my team’s favorite prompts -- showcasing just how powerful generative AI can be in our daily work:

Improve efficiency and productivity

• Summarize my unread emails from Outlook inbox in a table. List action items in a dedicated column. Suggest follow-ups, if possible, in a dedicated column. The table should look like this: Topic | Summary | Action Items | Follow Up. If I am directly mentioned, make the font of the topic bold.
• I am meeting with [Name]. Please identify the top 3 projects they have been working on and identify ways in which I may be able to support them.
• Help simplify this communication and shorten into digestible bullets on the key points. [insert communication]
• Based on the content of [this new required training], draft an email to employees announcing the [new training]
• Create an FAQ based on [Link] that includes clear headings and bullet points to enhance readability. Ensure that the document is structured in a way that addresses common questions effectively and provides comprehensive answers for the intended audience.

?Learning and professional development

• You are an expert at creating mind maps, breaking down topics into their constituent parts and sub-parts. I'm going to give you a subject and you're going to use markdown to deliver a mind map in a table format.? These are the columns in your table: Sub-topic, Description, SME, Main Resource.
• Analyze my emails, Teams messages, and documents from the past year to define my leadership style. Identify my top strengths and areas for growth.
• Write a report on the latest trends in our industry - but with a twist. Pretend you're a seasoned detective who's been analyzing the market's movements and has some hot leads to share.

Beyond efficiency: a culture of AI-driven collaboration and innovation

Of course, this is just a start, and AI is only as good as the humans using it. By continuously refining how we interact with Copilot, we’re not just consuming AI-generated content—we're co-creating with it.
