The Power of Generative AI: 20% Head-start + 50% Faster!

Using AI can you give you (at least) a 20% head-start in any project, and make you 50% more effective and efficient with the remaining 80%.

• Pick the most complex and horrible and difficult and terrible problem you are trying to resolve right now in your workplace (or even in your personal life). Make sure to think about a problem that you don’t know how to tackle or resolve.
• Prepare an email for a “coworker” (or a friend) describing the nature of the problem; every piece of context you can provide (data, information, background, etc.); the level urgency; and ask that “coworker” (or friend) for help.
• Now, take that very email that you wrote to another “person” and paste it in any Generative AI tool of your preference. If you don’t have one yet, create a free account in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, MetaAI, and give it a try.
• What do you get as a result?

This is what I am sure of:

The response you will get is likely something completely imperfect, partial and perhaps too general, but definitely not useless or without value. Whatever you got as a response will probably set you off on the path to becoming more curious and asking AI better questions, getting more and more refined answers from your preferred tool, and improving the quality of the solution to the problem you are trying to resolve.

As imperfect as it may be, getting a response in a few seconds (literally, like 5 seconds) from a Generative AI tool will give you a significant head-start versus someone not using AI.

I like to think that the number is around 20% head-start for those using AI to solve a problem or to do whatever it is they need to do, versus those not using AI. Sometimes, for example, for some of my own use cases, and especially after having refined the questions I am asking and the way I interact with AI, that head-start can be 50-60%.

Imagine the massive amount of time you can save.

Regardless of whether the head-start number is 20 or 60%, the more you learn about how to properly use any of these generative AI tools the better the responses you will get. And the better the responses you get, the faster, more productive, efficient and effective you will become at completing the remaining 80 to 40% of the task.

I like to think of this as getting at least 50% faster at completing the rest of the work.

Therefore, imagine yourself doing a project with AI and from the get-go having a 20% head-start versus those don’t use AI; and completing the remaining of the project 50% faster!.

Impressive, isn’t it?

Leveraging the power of Generative AI is crucial. And this is not just like any technology that is far detached from your day-to-day work. This is something tangible, that you can use right now, and, for most Generative AI models, for free.

Tools like Claude and ChatGPT are revolutionizing the way we work, providing a significant advantage over those who have yet to embrace these technologies.

The 20% head-start that I talked about is rooted in AI’s ability to quickly generate ideas, outlines, and rough drafts, and take over most manual tasks – like writing something basic and general. AI can generate the fundamental components of the work ahead. This foundation serves as a launchpad, allowing you to bypass the initial brainstorming and planning stages, which can often be time-consuming and mentally taxing. With AI, you can dive straight into refining and building upon the generated content, saving valuable time and mental energy.

Once the initial 20% of the work is complete by AI, you will continue getting benefits throughout the remaining 80% of a project. For example, you can leverage AI to streamline research, generate additional content, and even assist with editing and formatting. By automating certain tasks and providing intelligent suggestions, AI enables you to work at least 50% faster than those who rely solely on manual efforts.

The differences in productivity and output are staggering between those using AI versus those who aren’t.

9 Strategies

To fully leverage the power of AI and maximize its benefits, consider implementing the following nine strategies:

• Identify repetitive tasks in your day-to-day work: Analyze your workflow and identify tasks that are repetitive, time-consuming, or mentally draining. These tasks are prime candidates for AI automation, as they can often be completed faster and more efficiently with the help of tools like Claude or ChatGPT.
• Experiment with different AI tools: There are numerous AI tools available (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, MetaAI, Microsoft Copilot, Perplexity, You, Aithor, and many more – and a lot more for other uses such as presentation-creation, transcription, video creation, etc.), each with its own strengths and weaknesses. Take the time to explore different options and find the tools that best suit your needs. Don't be afraid to experiment with multiple tools to find the perfect fit for your work style and requirements.
• Integrate AI into your existing workflow: Rather than treating AI as a separate entity, integrate it seamlessly into your existing workflow. This may involve creating templates, setting up automations, or establishing a routine that incorporates AI at key stages of your projects. By making AI a natural part of your process, you'll be better positioned to reap its benefits consistently. I always talk about creating frameworks. Provide the tool with your main points or key information, and let it generate a logical structure for your work. This outline can serve as a roadmap, helping you stay organized and focused throughout the project.
• Collaborate with AI for content creation: AI is not meant to replace human creativity but rather to enhance it. Use AI tools as a collaborative partner in your content creation process. Allow the AI to generate rough drafts or sections of your work, then refine and build upon that content with your own insights and expertise. This collaborative approach can lead to faster, more comprehensive results.
• Utilize AI for editing and proofreading: Editing and proofreading can be time-consuming tasks that often require a keen eye for detail. AI tools can assist in this process by identifying grammar and syntax errors, suggesting alternative phrasing, and even checking for consistency in tone and style. By using AI as a first-pass editor, you can save time and ensure a higher level of polish in your final work.
• Continuously learn and adapt: As AI technologies evolve, so should your strategies for leveraging them. Stay informed about the latest developments in AI and be open to adapting your workflow as new tools and techniques become available. Attend workshops, read industry blogs, and engage with the AI community to stay at the forefront of this rapidly advancing field.
• Monitor and measure your results: To truly maximize the benefits of AI, it's essential to monitor and measure your results over time. Keep track of the time saved, the quality of your output, and the overall impact AI has on your productivity. Use this data to refine your strategies and make informed decisions about how to best leverage AI in your work.
