Let’s be honest, mid-career is like the Bermuda Triangle of professional life. There’s no map, no GPS, and often no clue where the heck you’re headed. Enter mentorship: the compass that keeps you from getting lost at sea and all washed up. A strong mentor (man or woman) is often the beacon of clarity needed to see through those foggy moments of uncertainty. In my career, I've found that the guidance of experienced mentors has been invaluable in helping me make crucial decisions. I found my first mentor in high school, and I'm still gathering a boat load full of big brains, bigger personalities, and people who cared just as much if not more sometimes about me and my success.

Life throws curveballs, and careers are no exception. As Susan Wojcicki CEO of YouTube wisely pointed out, “Rarely are opportunities presented to you in a perfect way. In a nice little box with a yellow bow on top. 'Here, open it, it's perfect. You'll love it.' Opportunities – the good ones – are messy, confusing and hard to recognize. They're risky. They challenge you.” Mentors who have weathered the storms can offer invaluable insights on navigating career politics, leadership challenges, and even the fine art of saying “no” without guilt.
