The Power Experience
"Low-code" "no-code"... what the heck is it anyway? In a nutshell, it's changing the way we work and interact with our favorite brands. If you can build a Power Point slide and write in natural language, you can build an app. Between AI, co-pilot, apps, automation, and bots, chances are we are all surrounded by these tools already.
These apps have reduced busy work (manual processes), reduced errors, and have provided better returns for organizations due to reduced costs, increased efficiency, and improved productivity.
We are on track for the 2019 quote, 65% of application development activity will be low-code by 2024 per the 2019 Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Low Code Application Platforms.
Value for an organization with $3 billion annual revenue for 10,000 employees, will NET $1M in annual benefit for the first year of premium investment.
Executive summary
…as Highlighted by the Total Economic Impact? study commissioned by Forrester Consulting, March 2020
Perhaps it's time to move your paper-based checklists to a centralized database like Virgin Atlantic, or build and scale your Center of Excellence like Chevron or... get a grasp on End User Computing, or a myriad of smaller business challenges your see everyday - if so, you've come to the right place. Thousands of customers from around the world are conquering these challenges along with many others captured in a good summary of Use Cases, Presentations, and Customer Stories.
Just for fun, think of what this could do for you and your boss when you bring this to folks for sponsorship. Over 97% of the Fortune 500 organizations are using a not so secret tool to automate workflows, streamline simple but time consuming requests, visualize real time data from around 900 systems called "connectors" and growing - like Oracle, SAP, SalesForce, AWS, Workday, Google Cloud, to name a few, that you are already using - all connected with a couple quick clicks or taps.
We're making significant investments into the Microsoft Dataverse and Dynamics 365 which has resulted in solving a bunch of business challenges for some of our customers. Speaking of Dynamics… think of Dynamics 365 as a well developed Power App. It sits on the Dataverse and highlights the art of the possible with the Power Platform.
To get started - because I'm sure you are like… Oh my gosh, when can I get started!?... We are launching a framework to get organizations using the tool across the enterprise - it's called the #PowerExperience - supporting our work on Power Platform.
We finished a great implementation on a 50,000 employee organization with a trusted partner. Here is a webinar on Power Platform by Slalom who worked closely with the client, implementing the Power Experience.
Another large client with over 60,000 employees completed the Power Experience through extensive Application Lifecycle Management to ensure proper security and governance. They are rolling out production apps now and are crushing it!
We have evaluated various versions of onboarding but this 7 step process is a proven method to get your organization up and running, at scale, with Power Platform.
Step 1 | Executive Alignment
Our executives engage and discuss the Power Experience at a high level. This is usually a 30 minute discussion to align the troops aka "The Power Team" to include:
Everyone will get excited and ready to start talking about how we are all going to free up our time to serve our customers better – whether internal or external, focus more on value added tasks, actually think strategically for bigger chunks of the day, and align the Enterprise to boost revenue and earnings due to productivity increases while reducing app development cost and minimizing risk through automation.
Step 2a | Governance | in tandem to Step 2b
We're laying the groundwork to technically understand and approve something that can connect systems with a few taps, increase my productivity 3+ hours a week, and cause our stock price to increase… hold the phone Batman, we need to make sure this thing isn't going to blow up.
During the first few weeks we will:
1.??????Stand up the Center of Excellence
2.??????Address security, governance, risk and controls concerns
Step 2b | Build the Power Team
We get the Power Team connected with either one of our Microsoft Technology Centers, or an expert network of Partners. Incredible groups like EY and their demo of why they chose Power Platform for some complex enterprise application needs and their extensive use cases across industry, or your preferred partner, are also highly capable.
Step 3 | App in a Day
We run the team through a standard use case via an App in a Day where the team builds an app together in a trial environment. About 2 or 3 days after the App in a Day session, we get the Power Team back together for an ideation session to envision use cases across the organization. Hitachi does a nice job of this outlining initial use cases for Financial Service Customers. Think of this as if you have the keys to the kingdom and can fix oodles of problems around reducing technical debt, lack of transparency in the financials, limited access to programs or reports, real time reporting, automating darn near anything that isn't directly contributing to maximizing your potential as a human in the workplace.
Step 4 | Hackathon
We build on the envisioning session and take the top 1 or 2 use cases into a deeper dive #hackathon where the Power Team, led by their selected Microsoft and Partner experts, jump into a teaching and hands on keyboard session to solve pressing issues to the #Enterprise.
Step 5 | Proof of Concept
The hackathon is also day one of a 5-day proof of concept that runs the team through these real-world challenges specific to your business. The goal of the POC is to walk away with an example of what Power Platform can do and share the results with the rest of the lines of business.
If you're looking for a fun and/or competitive situation, pull 2 or 3 lines of business together and see who can build something in power that has the greatest impact on:
Step 6 | Business Case + Proposal + Statement of Work
In conjunction, a tailored business case (Business Value Assessment or BVA), list of use cases supported by business owner, proposal, and statement of work will be presented along with next steps on making the ideation a reality.
Step 7 | Road show to lines of business
The Power Team and Experts present the results of the POC (s) and envisioning to Organizational Leaders and Lines of Business. We will also share more around art of the possible and what other organizations are doing with Power Platform, globally.
We are at an inflection point where automation is the best it's ever been, moving from on premise to the cloud is costly so how about you be hero and show your leadership how to access your existing on-premise data with Power Platform!?The world will build more than 750 million apps in the next 5 years which is more than have been built in the last 40 years - think we should get ahead of that curve? Reach out to your Microsoft Account Team to schedule a consult, mention you read this blog, and ask for the #PowerExperience.
See you out there!
