The Power of Empathy
Imagine a morning where our goal is to fit ourselves in another person's shoes. Understand the other person through that person's eyes.
Corporate world yearns for this kind of behavior. Harvard Business Review in its article 10 must reads on leadership describes emotional intelligence and empathy as a key trait for level 5 leaders and this can only be achieved through consistent reflection of the person in front of us.
The power of empathy brings in us the sort of contentment that we all yearn for everyday to be felt. This can only happen when we as individuals start to behave collectively in our lives.
Even after being in an era where we as a society are enjoying tremendous growth and betterment in all aspects of our life, we still are not happy and satisfied with everything. An astonishing 75% of people in their jobs are not happy. This not only results in companies having disengaged people on payroll but also suffering billions of dollars in collective loss in productivity.
The real question we have to ask is "How can I be more engaged in my everyday life?"
In today's world, for a company to stand out and be viable, people and collaboration is key in developing the best products and experiences. In order to enable the new ideas and building new products, we need empathy on all front that enables a team to gel very well. When one team member is down, others can pick up the slack, knowing the person's current state. This is what makes great companies last and succeed for a long time. It is because the leaders intentionally make every effort to build a community which cares for each other through empathetic means.
We should all strive to develop a sense of empathy in any situation we are in, ultimately making us a better human being .
