The Power of Emotional Intelligence
What is the difference between IQ and EQ?
Our IQ remains constant while our EQ evolves from childhood to adulthood.
What are emotions? They are the transformation of a thought into a
feeling into an emotion creating an action causing a reaction. They
are the purest form of human expression.
There are four basic emotions: fear, anger, sadness and joy. Then
there are hundreds more. They mirror our aptitude, attitude and
personality, as opposed to our cognitive abilities.
All emotions are the same, yet they vary in degree from person to person.
They impact our behaviour and relationships, the cornerstone of social
interaction.
All emotions lie in our subconscious and surface only when a trigger
happens. This is because almost all of our daily actions are based on
automatic thoughts and habitual activities.Very few actions are based
on our IQ and EQ.
Emotions are significantly impacted by the environment we live in,
i.e. our family, our school, who we associate with?and indeed where
we reside. Our physical health is directly proportional to our emotional health.
Almost all learning is based on our EI and not our IQ. In general,
only 25% of our emotions are positive. The key is to rid ourselves of
the balance negative emotions.
People do not like emotional people. Why is it considered?advisable to suppress emotions rather than to express them?
What are the causes and consequences of emotional expression?
Why are many people detached from their emotions as if there is a
stigma attached?
What turns a simple debate into a heated argument ?
What is body language and how do we convey our emotions thru non-
verbal communication?
Emotions are used in a variety of ways for a variety of purposes, both
good and bad. They can connect, influence, convince and engage like no
other medium.
How do we manage our emotions? This is done by recognizing and
understanding the source of our emotion, and by perceiving,
understanding, facilitating and managing them. This is done by asking
how, when and why. For example, why did someone say or not say
something. Or, why did he or she do or not do something? How did I or

one's mental status. When combined, they become the basis of rational
