The Elite Mums Network is a platform that was launched in Ghana by Elaine Cunningham-Walker CEO and Founder of Everythings Education in March 2020, just before the Pandemic struck. Elaine being a mother of Ghanaian heritage with strong connections in Ghana, realised that Ghana was establshed by matriarchs. Mothers make such an impact on the children in Ghana. There is a proverb in Ghana translated from a local dialect TWI that says that the man provides the house, but it is the woman that makes the home. This is so true of most households in Ghana.
Elaine realised that most schools and Universities had to find a way of reaching out to these families who wanted to send their children abroad to study. They needed to understand how to engage with them. Speaking as a mother myself with children in boarding school in the UK, I understand the system. However there are families in Ghana that have the disposable income but the whole process seems daunting. Someone like myself is able to walk them through the whole process and have various workshops to prepare the children for boarding school like and also university in which ever country they choose.
The school that will stand out to these mothers after spending time with them are the schools that are authentic. Not saying that schools are not authentic, but how do you come accross to the parent. What types of communication are you using. Are there particular things that are thought as offensive in Ghana. How must you address Ghanaians? Of course the topical question, which jollof is better, Nigerian or Ghanaian? Whatever you do, don't make the mistake of speaking about Jollof when you havent research what it is. What do you know about the tribal system in Ghana. How can you meet the needs of different tribes in Ghana? A school that has done due diligence to find all of these things will stand out from other schools when communicating with parents.
Everythings Education likes to help schools with an Audit and Action Plan to equip them with the right strategy to fully enagage with families to the point of signing on the dotted line.
