"There is no power on earth like unconditional love" - Warren Buffett
Over the weekend, my friend Vicky Vaswani suggested I watch the documentary "Becoming Warren Buffett" and gave an enormously valuable summary out over the weekend.
It really was incredible.
Buffett talked about how from a very young age he understood numbers, was a genius, walked on egg shells around his mother, and heroed his Dad.
The documentary centred on 3 themes.
Love.
Buffett spoke a lot about love during the movie, and the love he held for his late wife Susan Buffett was obvious.
***
"Love is very strange thing.
If you try to give it out, you get more back.
If you try to hold onto it, you lose it"
***
Buffett shares how his wife "built him" and made him a complete whole & better person. He would not have been able to "Become Buffett" if it were not for the love of his wife.
Purpose.
Buffett talks about doing the job you would do if you didn't have to. This is where Purpose lays. If you do what you love then you never have to work a day in your life. Buffett shares how he feels very blessed to get to do what he does everyday because he loves it and doesn't consider it work.
Philanthropy.
Buffett has given away almost everything he has ever earned so that it goes back to society. In one day he gave $37B to the Melinda & Bill Gates Foundation along with the Charities run by his own children. He shares how in the end, he will spend less than 1% of everything he has made, the rest will go back to helping others, there is no point keeping it when it could be used purposefully.
At the end of a letter he wrote to his children: "I consider myself lucky to have three children who want to spend much of their time & energy in working on projects that will benefit others. I am proud of what you are doing and I am sure your mother would be proud as well - Love Dad"
We are complex creatures, but true leaders just lead by showing the path forward for others.
So back to our quote "There is no power on earth like unconditional love", so what does this really mean?
It means, that in this lifetime, if you can find a person who loves you for who you are, and allows you to be yourself, in it's totality, then you can become the person you were meant to be.

I would love to read your thoughts. Thank-you Vicky Vaswani.

6 年Fabulous article! From my perspective, only animals (other than human beings) can offer unconditional love. Being unconditionally loved is indeed a great boon. Unfortunately, it's hard to find it on earth.
