The Power of a Dream

The Power of a Dream

Recently, I was watching a few highlights from the Oscars and I came across a story that brought me to tears. There were many historic wins across the many categories: Elephant Whisperers winning Best Documentary Feature, Nattu Nattu winning Best Song and Michelle Yeoh for Best Actress and so many more.

However, when it comes to moving and heart-grabbing speeches- Ke Huy Quan's was the one for me. The average millennial might not know that Ke Huy Quan was a child actor in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and also an iconic character in the movie The Goonies.

Since then, Quan struggled to find roles and ended up working as an assistant director and stunt coordinator until a familiar movie from not too long ago came along: Crazy Rich Asians.

After the great success of Crazy Rich Asians, Quan decided to give his dream of acting another shot at the age of 50 and just two weeks after his decision- he received a call for his award-winning role in Everything, Everywhere, All at Once.

It's crazy to think that after almost decades of not finding work in his dream career, just one move helped bring an artist's dream alive. The lesson? We all have our dream inside of ourselves, maybe we've abandoned them along the way- but they're still there. All it takes is one hand reaching out, one foot in front of another, one call and that is the first step to bring the stars of inspiration and dreams back into our lives.

A line that still rings in my ear from Quan's speech is

"Dreams are something you have to believe in... Please keep your dreams alive!"

Whatever brings you that spark and child like fascination, dream it, visualize it and protect it with your whole heart. This is your sign to keep your dream alive!
