POWER OF DIY SHARING EXPERIENCE
I am excited to share an enriching experience from yesterday! I had the privilege of engaging with a group of hotel and restaurant owners from the Southeast Asian (SEA) region to delve into best business practices. To my astonishment, I was allocated 10 minutes to impart my insights on attaining business excellence. The knowledge I gained from this interaction is truly invaluable, and I implore each of you to take a moment to reflect upon it and contemplate its implementation within your respective organizations. I believe it is something we genuinely need.
During this enlightening conversation, a prominent Indian billionaire and renowned brand owner was asked about the secret behind his business's remarkable 100% year-over-year growth. Such a question can be intimidating for any entrepreneur, as success can be a complex subject to dissect. However, his response was nothing short of astonishing and offers profound lessons for all of us. He disclosed that he owns numerous restaurants across India, and his business places significant emphasis on its people. He shared that he had adopted a time-honored lesson passed down through generations: he recruited "Quality People" and trained them to focus exclusively on welcoming customers and ensuring the quality and flavor of the food. Everything else, from taking orders to food delivery, followed a "Do It Yourself" approach, as his staff was occupied with creating the exceptional dining experiences that customers expected. This revelation was truly inspirational for some and a blessing for eager learners like me.

Any business revolves around people, with various departments playing integral roles in this process, including Sales, Technology, Leadership, Product Development, Finance, Human Resources, and more. I propose that if each department adopts the approach of warmly welcoming both internal and external customers and concentrates on empowering them to take the initiative themselves, One can strive to become a unicorn company in no time. Let HR recruit the right people, let finance conduct meticulous audits, let the product team craft offerings tailored to customers' needs, and let our tech team innovate to provide the technological solutions customers require.
The "Do It Yourself" (DIY) mentality is appealing not only because it saves money and cultivates skill sets but also because it often evolves into a fulfilling pursuit. However, it is crucial to acknowledge that DIY is not always straightforward. Successful DIYers must possess the ability to research, identify the right solutions, and independently source materials and tools. Engaging in DIY fosters problem-solving skills; when things do not go as planned, individuals learn how to identify issues and resolve them. DIY also nurtures creativity and encourages ongoing innovation, as there is something new to discover for everyone.
I hope this message resonates with you and makes sense. Thank you for taking the time to read and contemplate these thoughts.
