Data is the new Oil…when I heard this earlier, it was hard to believe. Data can’t make machines run, data can’t produce electricity or even any form of energy which is against the very nature of material science.
However, if we connect the dots from history, and advancements of human species which has been existing for over 200,000 years and have only been able to learn to read and write for probably around 10,000 years or so. This ability to create, gather and act on data gave processing power to human brain to enable vast global infrastructure, engineer complex architectures, enable communication systems, transport system etc and advance human lives from mere existence to giving it a purpose to make not only this world a better place and also explore universe like enabling first cell tower to moon to attempting to send Tesla in Mars and many more such missions to come.
Internet era increased the pace of human advancements by many folds. It enabled a global platform called world wide web for data exchange, online commerce and much more. Internet blended with mobile access brought in this enormous high energy fuel offering “power of data” in the in the hands of each one of us. As an individual, we spend more time in a day to visualize, respond to, create or consume data (in various forms - text, email, audio, videos etc) to meet our business, social, entertainment and educational needs. With data and human intelligence we can create advanced highly sophisticated algorithms that helped us to:
- identify patterns from history
- perform routine processes & workflows across various platforms
- innovate and discover new possibilities
- enable us to visualize and extrapolate trends
- help us in immediate or future decision making
- enable advanced deep learning code to adapt to the data changes
Above all with the introduction of neural network programming getting into robotics and mixed reality – it is offering machines the ability to imitate human intelligence (AI) and gradually mature to a higher capable humanoid robotic clone (watch this clone for a professor) . Data not only has a capacity to provide enormous power to human being, when fueled into an advanced robotic and machine learning algorithm it also has an ability to even take over human race.

6 年If we equate Machine Learning software modeled neural networks to tabula rasa of “child”, we know there is only one way for maturation and training to occur...data. Massive amounts of data. In only 5 or 10 years, those companies that capture, and have ownership of, large data sets for specific verticals (medical, transportation, power, manufacturing, and scores of others) those companies will top the Fortune 100.
