The Power of Consistency: My Real Estate Journey and Leadership Reflections

The Power of Consistency: My Real Estate Journey and Leadership Reflections

If you’ve spent any time in real estate—or really, any business—you already know that motivation is like a rollercoaster. Some days, you’re on top of the world, closing deals, signing clients, and making big moves. And other days, it feels like you’re just dragging yourself along. It’s funny, really. When I started out, I thought success was about passion. That fire inside. But after years of being in this business, running my team, and now co-leading @SERHANT. Orlando, I’ve learned something different: passion fades. Consistency is what matters.

Showing up every day—especially on the days when you don’t want to—has been the key to building something sustainable. Early in my career, there were plenty of moments when it would’ve been easier to just step back. Deals fall through. Clients bail. The market shifts. But the way I see it, it’s not about how hard you can hustle when things are going well; it’s about how often you’re willing to push through when everything feels like it’s working against you.

1. Show Up, No Matter What

I’ve seen this firsthand with the agents on my team at @SERHANT. The ones who consistently take action, no matter how they feel that day, are the ones who build momentum. It’s not always about closing a deal that day or signing the biggest client—it’s about making the calls, sending the emails, following up, and doing the little things that move the needle forward, one step at a time.

This is what I try to instill in every agent I work with. It’s not about waiting for the "perfect" time to act. There’s never a perfect time. You’ve just got to show up and do the work. Daily.

2. Create a Routine You Can Stick To

I’ve had days (hell, weeks) where I’ve felt like everything was out of control. The only thing that keeps me on track is the routine I’ve built over the years. There’s no magic formula—just something simple that works for me: starting the day early, taking time to plan, and focusing on the highest-priority tasks first.

When I was younger, I thought I needed constant inspiration to perform at my best. But now, I realize that a solid routine beats inspiration any day. Especially when you’re juggling leadership, recruiting, production, and growth all at once.

3. Celebrate the Small Wins

In real estate, the big wins get all the attention—huge closings, multi-million dollar deals, rapid growth—but it’s really the small wins that matter most. Whether it’s an agent on my team landing a tough client or hitting a monthly goal, those small steps forward are what build confidence. I remind my agents—and myself—to celebrate those moments. Each little win builds toward something bigger.

For me, it’s less about the grand slam and more about keeping the momentum going.

4. Focus on the Process, Not the Outcome

I used to chase quick results. I’m not ashamed to admit it. When I first started, it was all about closing the next deal as fast as possible, pushing to hit the next big number. But I’ve learned that real growth comes from focusing on the process. Perfecting the daily habits that ultimately lead to the results we all want.

For example, when I coach new agents, I’m less focused on their sales numbers early on. Instead, I focus on building their habits—prospecting, networking, creating content, following up—because I know if they commit to the process, the results will follow. That mindset shift has made all the difference in how I lead and in how I grow my own business at @SERHANT.

5. Discipline Beats Motivation Every Time

People always ask how I stay motivated, especially with everything I’m juggling. The truth is, I don’t always feel motivated. But I’ve built discipline over the years. I’ve learned that the only way to keep moving forward is to stay disciplined, even when I’m not feeling it.

Motivation might get you to start something, but discipline will keep you going when that motivation is gone. That’s what I share with the agents who join @SERHANT: Don’t rely on motivation to fuel your success. Discipline—showing up and doing the work—is your best ally in this business.

Consistency isn’t glamorous. It’s not what you see in the highlight reels or on the social media feeds. But it’s the foundation of everything we’re building here at @SERHANT. Orlando. It’s what helps us push through the ups and downs, and ultimately, it’s what leads to lasting success.

If you’re in this for the long haul, don’t chase the quick wins or rely on bursts of motivation. Build your routine. Stick to the process. Celebrate the small victories. And keep showing up, day after day, no matter what.

Thank you, Mark, for sharing this advice! I agree—consistency is key to success. Most days, we may not feel motivated, but with an agenda, client follow-ups, and staying on track, we’ll reach our goals, no matter how tough the path.
